Hotwire Coffee barista Blayne’s “Project Runway” debut

No spoilers here on the home page, in case you’re watching later via TiVO etc. … we’ve got a viewing party report for starters:

Lora Lewis, who’s Blayne‘s boss at Hotwire Coffee (WSB sponsor) in The Junction, says he’ll be back to work soon – after some downtime in his hometown (Yakima). Here’s what else Lora told the crowd:

Our correspondent counted more than 50 people packed into the Ginomai community room:

Blayne survived Episode 1. How’d Lora rate his performance? We’re checking back with her for a review in the morning. The party even got citywide-media attention (P-I “Big Blog”). Whew! So Glad Blayne made it, as his outfit was relaly not that great. I was worried!
Interesting to note that he is the most tan one in the group… considering he is from Seattle/WA State. Funny and LOVE IT!

Did anyone TiVo or DVR it and want to watch on the weekend (or loan/email me the DVR)? I can’t do late nights during the week for work, but would love to see it!

  • charlabob July 17, 2008 (8:07 am)

We’ve tivo’d. Lemme know if/when you want it? I actually watched but simply by accident :-)

  • kittylove July 17, 2008 (9:59 am)

they will replay this a million times this week. just check bravo.com for the times.

his outfit was a nightmare. he seems to be trying too hard to be like christian with his “-icious” catchphrases.

    Hi Charlabob,
I had company last night and couldn’t watch it and caught a couple of snips before I fell asleep last night. I would love to come and watch it with others. I could even bring a dessert if so called for as a bribe.

Go, Blayne! I think the editors might have given him a bad edit because he came off as all kinds of annoying last night, with the waaaaay-overused “Girlicious” (really? “Girlicious”?) and that sharp, vaguely violent-looking sniffling thing that he does all the time (or that the PR editors want us to think he does all the time). But I am totally rooting for Blayne, and I hope he kicks PR butt all the way to the end!

  • ellenater July 17, 2008 (11:22 am)

Well the sniffing ting could be nervousness. I’d be a wreck! I kinda liked his outift. Very innovative and it had some flow. He is super creative and that’s cool. We’ll see if he can chill out and finish those babies. There’s some stiff competition again this year!

BTW, I have this Tivo’d too if anyone needs it. I ten to keep them and watch them again. It’s fun to go back and see the old episodes.

    Good luck, Blayne!

ps. I think Stella will go next.

To anyone who missed it – no worries, Bravo reruns their programs ad nauseum. It will rerun tonight, tomorrow, a few times Saturday, Sunday… you get the picture :-) The way they do that is simultaneously wonderful and horribly annoying.

I saw a snippet of it, only by accident, as I lothe these types of shows. Really everyone is exactly the same, even the judges talk the same. Yes its nice to see a local person and I hope that he does well, but remember, its more scripted than you think it is. I have a few screen writer friends they spilled the beans on how they make a show.

“Hi, my name is OP. And I’m a PR addict….and I’m not even gay (‘Not there’s anything wrong with it…”) Go figure.” I blame my wife.

As for my favorites so far, Blayne isn’t one of them—and that’s more to do with his personality. Youth and arrogance rarely mix well and he’s seemingly got it in spades (PR edits withstanding). And the fake bake is nauseating. Other than that, his dress was pretty innovative and cool. (I didn’t see who won, but my favorite was the plastic cup dress. That took talent.) I feel my masculinity slowly slipping away…..say, when’s football season start?

  • Aim July 17, 2008 (3:40 pm)

Charla I would love to find a time to watch it on the weekend. I don’t have cable, so I am relying on others possibly being able to “tape” it for me. (heh, does anyone actually use VHS anymore? Besides me, I mean? ;-)

  • ellenater July 17, 2008 (4:51 pm)

    LMAO, OP

My hubby is into it also.

  • bj July 17, 2008 (9:03 pm)

He was EMBARASSING!! Can’t believe that he made it past the first night.

design is just what it implies, and really good designers go their own way (unless you’re line is selling at Wal-Mart). He went out on a limb and sometimes, like art, some people get it and others don’t. Compared to some of the hideousness I see paraded down runways each year announcing the new seasons design, I hardly think Blaynes was the failure that some are describing it as. He went his own way. Considering the number of “what were they thinking?” looks that I see around here everyday, we hardly have room to judge.

Sorry, comment time is over.
