White Rose Reception: Hi-Yu Festival’s ladies’ night

cakepose.jpg

Tonight at Fauntleroy Church (WSB sponsor), West Seattle Hi-Yu Festival queens and princesses present, past, and potentially future (the current “candidates”) gathered for the annual White Rose Reception, a ladies-only event. As exciting as it was for the gowned young women you see above, it was also a big night for camera-wielding moms and mentors:

Before the cake break that led to the photo-op shown above, memories were shared as women and girls from past Hi-Yu courts stood up and introduced themselves – here are a few:

The five candidates vying to be the next Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu introduced themselves tonight; all five with a long list of accomplishments, as you can see here. (We shot video tonight for a future feature, as the candidates get ready for a variety of events leading up to the Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu coronation and reception on July 21.)

Hi-Yu is a terrific local tradition which really needs our support to continue. I learned last night that Hi-Yu is older even than Seafair. West Seattle is so cool!!

I understand the poor float is once again having major mechanical problems. We need to come together as a community and figure out how to fix this float so we can spread our West Seattle charm out to other communities!! Any ideas??

We asked Hi-Yu leadership recently what we could do to help get that word out – president Tim Winston said they were working on a plan, so we’ve been waiting to find out what that is. (Of course their first priority is to get everything handled for all the activities that are under way.) I’ll check in to see if there have been any new developments.

Hi Yu usually sells pins, buttons and bottled water at the Seafair Pirates Landing on Alki Beach. In the past, their table has been on the east side of the bath house. I hope people will seek them out on July 5th and buy something.

Aaaaaarrrgh… a fine, upstanding bunch of young ladies indeed. Good Luck to all 5 candidates. My Pirate brothers & I give you and the entire Hi-Yu organization our full support. I for one will be especially thirsty on July 5th so I’ll be sure to stop by your booth and purchase a bottle of water or two!
