An hour from now, it’s solstice time. Weather permitting (forecast doesn’t look too bad), most West Seattle wading pools open this weekend, too – plus there’s another of those popular “Wii for adults” events at a local library — a free soapmaking class presented by Seattle Free School — even pet adoption on Alki, and more! 42 West Seattle events ahead:

ALL WEEKEND: Movies at the Admiral Theater

ALL WEEKEND: West Seattle history on display @ Log House Museum at Alki, Thursdays-Sundays, noon-4 pm

SWIMMING: Southwest Pool is closed all summer for renovations, but Colman Pool is now in its 7-day-a-week mode schedule here

WADING POOLS: Three are scheduled to open for the official summer season on Saturday unless the weather’s really bad. Here are the links to the individual West Seattle wading-pool sites; Delridge, Hiawatha, Highland Park (listed as not opening till Monday), Hughes (listed as not opening till Monday), Lincoln Park (which had a pre-season weekend of operations last weekend)

DAILY (THROUGH MONDAY): Intergenerational Art Show at Providence Mt. Vincent; art show features works of art by the residents and children at The Mount. The artwork is displayed in the first floor hallway gallery and is available for sale.

ALL WEEKEND: Bonus event from outside West Seattle – Sing, Sing, Swing! by the Northwest Choirs @ Broadway Performance Hall (more info and performance times here)

FRIDAY & SATURDAY: “Questioning Silence” art exhibit @ ArtsWest, noon-7 pm both days

SATURDAY MORNING: Submitted by a local Scout: “My Junior Girl Scout troop #2092, will hold our second annual fundraising garage sale. It will be held at 3810 40th Ave. SW (Charlestown and 40th) from 9 am to 3 pm. All proceeds will go toward funding our troop’s trip to San Francisco next year. We are going to San Francisco for a special bridging ceremony crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. So far, we’ve held one garage sale, participated in two craft fairs, and sold Girl Scout cookies to help pay for our trip. We have items being donated to the garage sale from more than 10 families, so don’t miss your chance, and come to our garage sale!”
