Pole fire causes power outage

The power’s out tonight for parts of Alki and some of the northern parts of West Seattle. A pole fire caused City Light to pull the plug for a couple of hours in order to make repairs. An update on City Light’s phone line said that work was underway as of 5:50 pm and the outage should last approximately two hours.

It’s 8:16 and we’re still out in the Admiral district, but our neighbors across the street have it and the Metropolitan Grill block has it, so why not me?

Yea, its funny, everyone sits outside the library in their cars with their laptops…gotta have WSB. Crazy that one away is pitch black…I’ve been told we have a terrible power grid.
Just think, a power pole on fire in June knocks power out for, well, who knows how long! Can’t wait for the big one! Horrible, we need to invest in things like this. Even our cell phone is out, our tower is in the black out and Sprints battery only lasts 3 hrs. VZW still has battery back-up, they have diesel back-up. Great monopoly phone service! I’m done ranting, I have power, I should be happy!

Any updates from the outage zone? We are unfortunately a little out of position tonight … your editor here is out of town, your co-publisher, who capably covered today’s news, is on early watch and so not able to go back and check things out firsthand. I looked at the City Light “outages” page – no help, they didn’t activate it just for this.

Oops, that previous comment came into the moderation queue and I didn’t see it till posting mine. Will see if we can rustle up anyone from City Light via phone – if it’s still out after four hours, not good.

Just posted a quick blurb atop the home page. Outage line now says two a-m.

I just came through about 11pm and it is pitch black. Hopefully the 2am time will come true, or rush hour will not be fun. Even the assisted living center is completely black…you’d think they would have generator power. Safeway has power, but everything in the junction and a block in all four directions are pitch black.

Pole fire! We lost it right as I was about to put two dozen enchiladas in the oven. Fortunately we only were down for about twenty minutes, a mixed blessing because I ended up eating far too much enchilada. I did learn in those twenty minutes that during an outage it’s well important to drink up the Manny’s right away, because if the power doesn’t come back on soon it might get warm.

Sorry, comment time is over.
