West Seattle’s next new restaurant site

murphy.jpg

Two weeks ago, we mentioned the CL rental listing for the soon-to-be-vacated Murphy‘s on Avalon suggested it would be a good space for a restaurant. Tonight, verification that one is on the way. It started with a tip from Kate (thank you!) that she met a couple who told her they planned to open a “Northern Italian” restaurant in that space. She didn’t get their names but recalls that “the chef has worked at and opened other restaurants.” As of tonight, we haven’t found their identities, but we do know the Seattle DPD website shows a permit application for converting the space to a restaurant. (The only name on the online application is that of the architect, Daniel Corcoran.) Side note — a couple blocks north, along the east side of the intersection where Harbor becomes Avalon, the long-defaced-by-a-tag Luna Park sign has finally been replaced (after a year).

Oh doesn’t that figure! We’re leaving the neighborhood and now we’re getting a new restaurant! Dang. Anyone know of a month to month rental until we can find the house of our dreams to buy?! maya893@comcast.net

Maybe I missed it, but does anyone know if the store going to stay in WS? I’m hoping they stick around.

I have enjoyed the creativity of those folks…even just driving by their singularly, eye-catching window vignettes is a nice roadside treat.

We’ve been trying to find out. Messages not returned so far and nothing on Murphy’s site last time we looked … we’re just going to just have to drop in and ask next time we’re on Avalon.

We live in the space above Murphy’s, and our property manager said that Marilyn did find a new retail space in Pioneer Square, which is where she said she was looking last time we talked. I heard about the Italian restaurant over two weeks ago; didn’t even think to break the story to WSB!

    Thanks for the update, Sarah.

Re: breaking the story, we love to hear every little thing. “My neighbor’s recycling bin now has white zinfandel bottles instead of burgundy!” Welllll … maybe not … but almost everything else. Anything else you can share about the restaurateurs? We’re going to look for more info on Monday by checking with the architect, but otherwise, we’ll just have to be watching the liquor-license applications and various other online databases to find out more!

Unfortunately, I don’t know much else. My husband’s the one who talked to our prop. manager, who said that the new tenants have extensive restaurant experience and plan on sinking approximately $200,000 into getting the space ready. Sounds like they’re taking it pretty seriously!

We know the prospective owners and this is one of the BEST things to come to West Seattle!

Just got an e-mail announcement forwarded to us with the same info that jad just posted. Will be adding a standalone update momentarily.

Sarah, you and your husband will have to keep us all updated on the wonderful smells eminating from the new restaurant after it starts cranking out the meals! ;)

Mike – Definitely! Although I’m a little worried about the delicious smells emanating upward combined with the temptation of it being so close :-) I’m tempted to see if they have a need for someone a few hours a week, even though I already have full-time work and school…

oohhh!… a new Italian Restaurant?!!! Sounds like this may be a fantastic meet, greet and eat establishment for the Westenders Scooter Club.

  • Sarah May 3, 2008 (9:28 pm)

Hate to hijack the thread, but zippy – does the WSC welcome all scooters? As of today I’m a proud owner of an ’08 Genuine Buddy Pamplona and want to get involved in some rides once I’m more comfortable riding. Looks like a big club!

Congrats on your purchase! It is anticipated that more and more people will be looking to alternative transporation as fuel costs continue to rise… some will seek scooters as an inexpensive means of transportation whereas some will discover that riding scooter can open doors to a whole new lifestyle (hobby, entertainment, friends, etc.)

The Westenders will be hosting a table at today’s “Sustainable West Seattle Festival” (05/04). I would encourage you to stop by and say hi! (I understand parking will be free for scooters!)

We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog… ;-)

Sorry, comment time is over.
