fronterasgrab.jpgLots of fun indoors and out this weekend – “Sin Fronteras” (left) playing South American music at SSCC, jazz at Cafe Rozella, the kickoff for new “Family Night” get-togethers tonight, a school carnival and Yacht Club open house (you don’t have to have a boat!) also tonight, the Lions’ plant sale tonight and tomorrow, “Healthy Kids Day” tomorrow at the Y, a movie tomorrow night at West Seattle Christian Church for a great cause – and more, 44 events in all, listed ahead:

ALL WEEKEND: Movies at the Admiral Theater (schedule here)

ALL WEEKEND (AND THROUGH MAY 11): Mother’s Day WestSide Baby Diaper Drive continues at C & P Coffee Company, drop off a package of diapers and receive a free coffee drink of your choice

FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY: West Seattle Lions plant sale @ WS Senior Center, 5-8 pm Friday and 9 am-3 pm Saturday, dahlias, fuchsias, hardy perennials, geraniums, unique rhodies, TONS of tomato plants, and more. Bake sale both days, and spaghetti dinner Friday ($7). All proceeds support Lions community service projects.

FRIDAY & SATURDAY: “Yer Killin’ Me” art show @ ArtsWest, noon-7 pm both days

FRIDAY NIGHT: West Seattle Eagles steak dinner, 5:30 pm

FRIDAY NIGHT: Lafayette Elementary’s 59th annual school carnival, the Spring Fling, 6-9 pm (Theme “Wild Wild West”; games end 8:30; bounce house, face painting, cake walk, used book sale, bake sale, silent auction, dance party in the cafeteria, and carnival games with lots of prizes! Pizza, soft drinks, and salad will be for sale in the cafeteria; admission $2.50/person or $10 family, includes 10 game tickets, additional game tickets available @ 3 for $1)

FRIDAY NIGHT: New “Family Night” starting up, all ages welcome to play games, do puzzles, etc., in family room at Tibbetts UMC, 7-9 pm (read more here)

FRIDAY NIGHT: Jazz and movie @ Cafe Rozella: “Experience a night of some great jazz this Friday at Cafe Rozella. At 7 p.m., acclaimed jazz trumpeter, Victor Puentes and company will open with a jazz jam session. This will be followed by the screening of the 1986 movie, ‘Round Midnight, in which real-life jazz legend Dexter Gordon brilliantly portrays the fictional tenor sax player Dale Turner, a musician slowly losing the battle with alcoholism, estranged from his family, and hanging on by a thread in the 1950’s New York jazz world.”

FRIDAY NIGHT: West Seattle Yacht Club Open House, Alki Masonic Hall in The Junction, 7 pm (From the club: The public is invited to come and see what we are all about. Join us in the fun, meet fellow boaters, and enjoy the fellowship. We’ll also be offering a presentation on boating safety. Membership is not exclusive to West Seattle residents. Kids can take a run through the bounce house obstacle course, get their face painted, do a make and take craft, try out healthy snacks and much more. SATURDAY MIDDAY: White Center Food Bank announces groundbreaking for White Center Heights Park Community Garden, SW 102nd and 7th SW, noon (the 17 raised beds have been assigned to individuals and groups including the Southwest Boys and Girls Club and the Native Pride Club in conjunction with Cascade Middle School. Members of the White Center CDA will be there and community members who are not gardening with us this season are welcome to join in the fun. The program will include master gardener presentations about community gardening, composting, and vegetable growing, plus kids’ activities)
