West Seattle Saturday scenes, today’s first installment

Tons going on today; much of it is in the West Seattle Weekend Lineup list, but not everything:

No idea what those City Light crews were up to along Fauntleroy just west of 35th, but we couldn’t resist a picture. Next, something else we happened onto – a line outside the Westwood Village post office, where a passport fair is under way:

Last but not least, a quick pic from the West Seattle Sportsmen’s Club Hi-Yu Fishing Derby at Seacrest this morning, as a participant gets help bagging the fish he caught:

(We have video too, which we’ll include in a later roundup, but more Saturday events to cover first!) EARLY SUNDAY UPDATE: Here’s the clip, as promised:

Anyone know why there’s a giant polar bear on the East side of 35th Ave on Gatewood Hill, about 2 blocks north of OLG Church?

I would be shocked if it doesn’t have something to do with preps for the Sustainability Festival … they have someone in polar bear costume who’ll be at the Farmers’ Market tomorrow and at the festival …

Nice cell phone antenna site. . . NOT ! The wiring that was done is real ugly. It looks like an exploded box of spaghetti. Just another eyesore that we will have to look at forever so that someone can make a buck.

this is not fishing. as a staunch fisherman, this makes me kinda ill. taking kids to catch hatchery zombies in a wading pool is not way to instill a love of angling. sorry, “sportsmen”, but this is a joke.

Calm down, thee. It sure beats most of what goes on around here when it comes to teaching young ones about the outdoors and the food chain.

To your credit, though, no it’s not real fishing. That requires the desire and effort this event hopefully inspires in some of the folks participating.

For a six year old boy, whose mother wouldn’t get up any earlier than 8am for fish, this was a fun event. He talked all day about this being the first fish he’d ever caught. Even his princess-loving sister enjoyed it!

Sorry, comment time is over.
