3 more West Seattle weekend scenes: Bear, baseball, beauty

Polar bear loose in The Junction! Well, not so loose, really – Sustainable West Seattle unleashed the bear as a reminder of its first-ever Sustainable West Seattle Festival next Sunday, 10 am-3 pm in the Wells Fargo parking lot @ 44th/Alaska (here’s the WSB in-depth preview from earlier this week). Other less-furry members of SWS were working the crowd at the nearby West Seattle Farmers’ Market, including Gary Lichtenstein, who’s the person you can e-mail (energy@sustainablewestseattle.org) to find out how to help at next weekend’s festival (they’re still looking for more volunteer assistance). Two more West Seattle weekend scenes ahead — sports and scenery:

This weekend was a busy one for many local sports teams, including the Seattle Rainiers 14U baseball players:

Thanks to Jennifer Porter for sending that pic from one of the Rainiers’ games this weekend; that’s the same team whose fundraising car wash we highlighted last month; they’ll be back in action next weekend — see the schedule here. Last but not least, a moment of quiet beauty:

WSB contributing photojournalist Matt Durham caught that view of the Alki Point Lighthouse in Saturday’s setting sun. (Prints of Matt’s WSB photos and his other work are available through his site, mattdurhamphotography.com.)

Hmm, Al Gore was wrong; we’re under going global cooling. My evidence? This polar bear siting in the AJ. ;-)

    I dunno, OP.

My theory is that he heard a couple of weeks ago that it was colder than usual here, and by the time he packed, maybe missed an ice floe or two from home, (you know how unreliable public transportation is) and made it down here, the weather had warmed up! :P

I hear that Festival organizers are still looking for folks to don the Polar Bear Suit for an hour shift during the Festival. Its a two person suit, so bring a friend! Kids and Festival organizers will love you for it!

contact: energy@sustainablewestseattle.org if you want to chill out with the Polar Bear!

Sorry, comment time is over.
