Amazon Fresh adds more West Seattle turf

4 months after Amazon’s home-grocery delivery service Amazon Fresh expanded to West Seattle, with zip codes 98116, 98126, 98136 (original WSB coverage here), Amazon’s Vincent Chu sent word tonight that it’s now added 98106. Sorry, no word yet on a timetable for 98146!

We utilized a service like this in Houston called Peapod. We really liked it in general, but it didn’t seem to catch on and the service was discontinued. Do any of you have first hand experience with Amazon Fresh? Quality of products okay? Selection of meats and other ‘variable quality’ items?

I ordered from Amazon one time; it was so easy and convenient. I actually enjoy going to the grocery store, so that’s why I haven’t used AF since, but if you are strapped for time or have children, AF would be a life-safer. I should use it more- they have a good selection and comparable prices to QFC. And when they deliver, everything is packaged according to temperature. They do a good job!

When they first started in West Seattle, there was quite a discussion on WSB about people’s experiences. Overall the reviews were glowing if I recall!

I used them around Thanksgiving for some last minute items I was pleased with their service. I did the pre-dawn, so the bins were waiting for me when I got up in the morning.

I use them on a regular basis and I really like it. There are some things that I know not to get- for example, I ordered some salmon once that was pretty close to being bad and I had to throw it away. So no fresh meats- but everything else so far has been pretty good. One gripe I have is how light they pack the totes- my order yesterday morning had- I am not kidding- ONE loaf of bread in a tote and nothing else. That seems like an awful waste of space! The only other thing I dislike is when they are out of something they make a “substitution” – they don’t charge you for it- but I want what I ordered and if they don’t have it then they can fulfill the order next time. They just have a weird idea of what is an acceptable sub- I wanted whole grain bread, not “carb curber” bread….

Yay! When I got an email about this today I could not have been happier. Sounds like for the most part people are happy with the service. I can’t wait to place my order.

I use them almost every week for the things I don’t want to get at Costco. The prices are comparable to Safeway and often less. They also have a much larger selection. Little things, like being able to get a spaghetti sauce besides Prego. And while sick this week, I was able to get everything from a thermometer to a Gatorade flavor I could actually drink, at my doorstep within hours. Besides overnight, they now offer same day delivery too.

Only complaint is the same as JenV. Sometimes one little thing in a big tote. I’m guessing the order just gets filled in specific parts of the warehouse and for speed they don’t bother to consolidate at the end. At least the totes stack together now.

We LOVE Amazon Fresh and order about once a week. So far everything we have ordered has been great. Organic produce and all natural ground beef have been fresh and great quality.

I too don’t like how they use so many grocery bags for so few things. I emailed their feedback line about it and they are working on solutions…like reusable bags. In the mean time you can put the plastic and paper bags they give you back in your bins & what they can’t reuse they donate to local food banks.

Sounds like we will give it a try. I don’t mind the grocery store, but prefer to go for the specialty stuff and not the general staples.

I love Amazon Fresh – really great and easy to use. There are a couple things I won’t buy tho’ – the milk (I get organic and it’s cheaper at PCC), and I will not reorder meat. It just wasn’t that fresh. Great veggies & fruits, etc. tho.

we’ve been using them since Thanksgiving. it has saved us a tremendous amount of money and we have found the quality and the selection very competitive to the multitude of groceries in WS. it is incredibly convenient, seeing that they will deliver multiple times a day.

Sorry, comment time is over.
