Chillin’ on the beach

Photographer par excellence Christopher Boffoli wants everyone to know he took these baby-seal pix on Alki with a long lens from the prescribed distance, with Seal Sitters standing guard. We’re envious, since we have been down to the beach several times in the past few days but haven’t managed any in-person seal sightings ourselves …

Christopher also shared some gorgeous shots of the water, the Olympics, the lifting fog … here’s one of them. Truly a lovely afternoon:

Is it humanly possible to look at these seal pup photos and not say “awwwwww…” out loud? Gorgeous photos Christopher–thank you for sharing.

Amazing someone could get such shots from the “prescribed distance”. How far is that distance – I thought it was something like 50-100 yards? What are you shooting with Christopher – 800mm? Amazing…

    Christopher…to coin a phrase…you rock !!!:) what great pictures…thanks for sharing…

It was difficult to see at first as the pup looked very much like a piece of wood. But with a bit of patience he grew more animated, turned and faced my direction.

Actually, it was shot in RAW format with a 400mm lens and the area of the picture with the seal pup was significantly zoomed and cropped…and lightened by our discerning WS Blog editors :-)

I was lucky enough to visit Seattle this year, do some work, and see the Gray Whales.
With mountains, seas, beaches, forests you live in a wonderful part of the world!
Having spent a fair bit of time on the East Coast my few days in Seattle changed by perception of the US significantly!

Yes, the seal pup pix are cute. But that ferry pic is awesome. West Seattle is truly unique in setting…

Saw a pup (or a smaller adult) resting on the rocks near Luna Park yesterday. It looked very content.

Christopher, are you willing to sell prints of the ferry photo?
