   Can anyone reccomend a good Chinese restaurant? We go to Judy Fu\'s but that\'s a drive, I hope there is something good and local and not Yen Wor Village +p Thnaks!

   I\'ll 2nd bud on Lee\'s. Hands down the best Asian restaurant that we\'ve ever tested anywhere in Seattle.

   Lee\'s isn\'t really \"chinese food\" though - it\'s good, but it\'s more of a fushion place, IMHO. I\'d love to find a good chinese restaurant too, and willing to travel outside WS for it.

   Is Lee\'s by Quidnunc and Sweetie? Sue, I found Judy Fu\'s Snappy Dragon pretty good. They make homemade chowmein noodles. Very good but they are in Maple Leaf area.

   Yep, that\'s the one. There are two Asian restaurants north of Quidnunc; Lee\'s is the most northern on that block. The other (the name escapes me) is mostly a sushi place. I do agree that Lee\'s isn\'t full Chinese, although they have a few of the traditional Chinese options like Mongolian Beef (which is so, so good) and Sesame Chicken (also great).

   I can recommend House of Hong for Dim Sum, as well as Honey Court, both in the ID (although the latter is mostly fried Dim Sum). Then there\'s P.F. Chang\'s in Pacific Place, which is pretty good for a chain.

   I can advise you to steer clear of Louie\'s in Ballard. Granted, we\'ve only been there once 9 years ago, and it was right after we\'d moved here, so maybe it was just bad timing. But the egg roles were breaded and fried like fish from a fish \'n chips place, and they served them with ketchup. Not my idea of Chinese. I remember those horrific egg roles like it was yesterday. :)

   rcrawley, the asian restaurant you\'re thinking of next to Lee\'s is Kamei - it\'s a japanese place, and they serve a full japanese menu, not primarily sushi. I just got back from there - we go at least once a week. We love the people there and the food is inexpensive (for japanese food) and very good, despite it looking kinda dumpy. It\'s probably the place I eat most at in the Junction.

   I really like New Kowloon (now called Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant) in the ID. Always tasty, consistent, and enjoyable Chinese food. Huge menu, fair prices, and very reasonable portions make this a regular stop for me.

   When I\'m really hard up for Chinese food I\'ve been known to hit the Bowling Alley Chinese place once in awhile. I know the idea of Chinese food from a bowling alley seems kind of odd, but they\'re food is alright (nothing special, just basic) and their prices are awesome. I particularly like their chicken wings.

    Seven Stars Pepper in the ID is great, as is Szechuan Chef in Bellevue. Otherwise, Lee\'s is fantastic if you don\'t mind that it\'s more fusion than Chinese food. Anyone ever eat at Ho-Win on California? I\'ve always said I\'d give it a try but can\'t imagine it\'s any good!

    CMP, I\'ve eaten at Ho-Win twice. It\'s functional. Not the best, not the worst. I wouldn\'t say to run there, but you could do worse.

    I think my issue with chinese restaurants though is that chinese food in NYC/NJ is *very* different than chinese food here. I think I\'m searching for something that doesn\'t exist here, like good pastrami. So I tolerate it here and then when I\'m back there I eat myself sick on it. :)

    Sue, I\'m from Boston, I know what you are saying about very different chinese food here. I am glad to say I found good New York styled pastrami sandwich. The Place is called \"I LOVE NEW YORK DELI.\" It just opened at Pike Place Market. The owner is from the Bronx and he has everything shipped in from New York down to the wise potato chips, ring dings, and devil dogs. You can get sandwiches or by the pound. It is good. Just like back home.

    90% of the Chinese food I\'ve had in Seattle has been disgusting in some way--too salty, too greasy, too bland, or too weird.

    I tell people now I don\'t eat Chinese at all. I am too traumatized by Ho Win, New Luck Toy, etc.

    Shanghai Garden in ID is my choice, with their hand-shaven barley green noodles. Pot stickers using the same dough are also recommended!

    dunderp, thanks for the heads-up on the pastrami place - I work right near the Market, so I\'ll be sure to stop on over and check it out. I don\'t think I realized how much I missed pastrami until I was back in NY and walked into the Pastrami King and wanted to cry at the smell of the place. LOL!

    House, I agree that Ho Win is more \"east coast style\" than a lot of other places. I still find it a bit mediocre (I\'m with Kayleigh on her opinion of most chinese food in Seattle), but it\'s closer than many other places. I still cringe at the mixed vegetables in my \"eggdrop\" soup though. And for what passes for an eggroll out here.

    Ymm, Szechuan Chef in Bellevue off of 148th in the old KMart shopping center is the best Chinese food around and worth the drive to the eastside (I avoid the eastside at all possible costs too!). For local chinese, I love Lee\'s. I don\'t care if it\'s Fusion, it\'s tasty!

    The ID is packed with great Chinese restaurants. It all depends on what you like.

    Here are a few of my favorites:

    House of Hong, China Gate, O\'Asian for dim sum--although most Chinese restaurants do a pretty good job with dim sum in the ID, avoid Ocean City.

    For a great Chinese cheap lunch--Shanghai Garden, HoHo Seafood Restaurant, Hing Loon all come to mind.

    As for WS--HoWin is about the quality of the Safeway steam table. Don\'t worry about labels, just go to Lee\'s and order the chinese dishes there on the menu. The chef used to be the lead chef at Wild Ginger for the first several years.

    Lest you forget..WS\'s own Jade West Cafe (tucked quietly next to the West Seattle Wine Cellar) is a true JEM. Mr. Wah is simply the best.
