WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Alki gunfire (pdated Monday)

ORIGINAL 3:22 AM SUNDAY REPORT: After several 911 calls about suspected gunfire, police went to 57th SW and Alki Avenue SW and have just reported finding “casings in the roadway.” No reports of injuries or property damage so far.

ADDED NOON MONDAY: We have obtained the report narrative from SPD – redactions are all theirs, as sent to us:

At approximately 03:10 I was dispatched to 57 AV SW / ALKI AV SW for the report of a possible shooting / shots fired.

The original CAD notes read as follows:

”J/O, 15 SHOTS FROM OUTSIDE THE ADDR, FOLLOWED BY PEOPLE RUNNING”

“2 VEH SEEN SPEEDING AWAY EB ON ALKI TOWARDS THE WEST SEATTLE BR”

“:1 MIN AGO, HEARD 12-15 POSS SHOTS, LOOKED OUT, SAW A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE SCATTER IN MULTIPLE DIRECTIONS”

I arrived on scene at approximately 03:18 hours and was flagged down by a witness in front of 2XXX Alki AV SW. XXXX He stated the following: At approximately (3:05 am) hours he was inside his unit and thought there were fireworks going on outside. As he peeked his head out of the front door, he heard what he described as “bullets whizzing by, through the bushes.” He then observed two vehicles taking off eastbound on Alki AV, with one appearing to be chasing the other.

Shortly after they passed, two more vehicles followed closely behind. He stated he had a really difficult time trying to decipher what the makes and models of the vehicles were as it was dark and they were passing at an extremely high rate of speed. He estimated the speed to be 70-80 mph. His best guess at the types of vehicles were a dark colored XXXX.

Backing units blocked off Alki AV from 57th AV SW to 56th AV SW. In this block there were XXX Fired Cartridge Casings / Fragments recovered broken down as follows: XXXX Fragments. The XXXX and fragments spent were evenly distributed throughout the block, making it difficult to determine the origin location for the incident. However, there was a decent amount of broken glass from what could be the window of a vehicle, found just east 57th AV SW on the north side on ALKI.

A single impact location was found at 2XXX Alki Av SW Unit XXXX. It hit the glass panel of a balcony railing. Nobody inside the unit was hurt or heard / witnessed the incident.

While canvassing the area, Ofc XXXX was flagged down by a passerby who stated that she had video of the suspect’s car, which was captured XXXX An Axon link was sent to retrieve that footage.

Photos were taken and uploaded to Evidence.com. The XXXX / Fragments were photographed, logged, and placed into evidence. All available possible camera locations were recorded by and placed into Ofc XXXX supplement.

See photos in a comment below regarding bullet damage.

So many rounds fired and so many cars speeding away after! Hoping that everything and everyone are safe <3

It was a big shootout a block and a half away from my apartment (between 56 & 57th). Around 21 shots. I thought they hit the side of my building but the sound was glass falling from the patio above mine. I went outside and my neighbor in the building past ours was walking up. These two cars raced by. We hid behind the evergreen. Two more cars chased them. We walked down to see if everyone was OK. The neighbor had his gun out. We were hiding from passing cars. No one was hurt. The neighbor flagged the first responding cruiser down. He was able to tell the cop the make of each car. Even though I watched them race off, I couldn’t say what they were. The neighbor had been washing his walkway and went in to get a joint. When he reached the door the shooting started. He heard two bullets wiz by. Marijuana saved his life.

Your neighbor is pressing the boundaries of legal possession of a firearm if they use marijuana. https://reason.org/commentary/us-hemani-firearm-possession-marijuana-users-protected-right/ only in the past few days did the federal rules change, but Washington State is not a friend of the 2nd amendment

      • Rhonda June 29, 2026 (4:37 pm)

Regardless of any federal rule change for marijuana users, it’s still a crime to be intoxicated while in possession of a firearm in public no matter what.

        • Mike June 30, 2026 (4:39 am)

Yes, but the determining factor in being intoxicated with THC is not well defined like blood alcohol levels and is more observation than anything.  However, since Washington State has a 10 day waiting period for acquiring firearms and the federal law changed less than that from the time of this shooting event, it’s fair to say this individual was in violation of federal law for possession of a firearm and marijuana at the same time.  Will they have any issues now, probably not.

Isn’t open carry literally a thing here? How is WA not a friend to the 2nd amendment… Please enlighten me

I was awake and live on that block.   There were SO many gun shots, then lots of speeding cars, then yelling.  It’s always around this time on the weekend in the same area, so why can’t we just have an officer patrol down here at that time.  Especially on weekends.

  • Jack June 28, 2026 (11:16 am)

I live on Alki, ML mentioned it’s always this time of night on the weekends. I want to ask ML or anyone, what time of night the gunshots were fired? I want to know for my knowledge going forward. Thanks

      It was 3:15 am!

Crowds gather on Alki Ave, between 56th and 58th, most Friday nights/Sat morning and Sat night/Sun mornings. They usually start their festivities around 1am and party until 4am. People that live nearby get to listen to and feel the bass of their tunes while trying to sleep. And breathe the exhaust as they speed back and forth, and sometimes they do donuts. Some people are deluded into believing that “closing the beach” at 10:30pm means anything. And if you’re wondering, there ARE neighbors that regularly call the police about the noise, but it’s usually hours if police come by, if they do at all. Noise and racing complaints aren’t the same priority as gunshots.

  • Steve June 28, 2026 (2:04 pm)

Says no priority damage but my neighbor got his patio window shot out(pictured above for an earlier post)I also saw 4 bullet holes in the apartment building that was closer to the shooting

    • WSB June 28, 2026 (2:59 pm)

Sorry to hear that. No property damage as of when I went off watch at 4 but I’m catching up on what tranpired after that.

…nothing over the air in the ensuing few hours. Will be requesting the summary but really appreciate the followup info here.

I found another bullet hole in my second floor balcony wall by my barbeque on Saturday and then found a hole in one of my Seahawks banners on Sunday that corresponds to that bullet hole.

My heart is heavy for my Alki neighbors.

My anger goes out to those criminals.

My disappointment goes out to my elected officials and neighbors who are against police CCTV cameras.

  • Alki resident June 28, 2026 (10:36 pm)

Would love an update on this. It’s crazy that people are driving by shooting at random apartment complexes.

    • WSB June 28, 2026 (10:50 pm)

I hope to get the summary tomorrow. There was no further traffic on police radio in the hours after I left the desk, aside from a message to dispatch when they were done processing the scene.

  • WSB June 29, 2026 (12:23 pm)

    Report narrative added.

This and the noise was why I moved from Alki 10 years ago. This has been going for at least 20 years if not longer.

  • wetone June 29, 2026 (7:17 pm)

I guess these folks are not reading all the new signage, being impacted by the speed bumps, park rangers and early beach closure’s……… that city implemented to stop this type of behavior;) Had friends from out of town staying at our house this weekend and joked about which room they wanted to stay in due to the past shootings at Alki……. we are a few property’s away from where this happened.

Sorry, comment time is over.
