West Seattle Christmas trees: Holy Rosary lot opens

Our camera followed Holy Rosary‘s Father John Madigan up and down a few rows during the annual “blessing of the trees” on the Holy Rosary Tree Lot’s opening day today – a mostly silent blessing, as he was having some hoarseness trouble. This was just hours after volunteers spent the morning setting everything up:

As always, Holy Rosary donates a portion of its proceeds (15%) to local charities (all listed here); the tree lot’s been an HR tradition for 20 years (and it has its own info-laden website too). Now that Holy Rosary’s open, here’s the West Seattle Christmas tree lineup as it stands tonight:

For the bargain-hunters, there’s also the Ikea Christmas Tree sale… it’s December 5-7. You buy a tree for $20, then return it to Ikea January 2-4 for a $10 gift certificate.

We’ve gotten trees from them in the past. They’re Doug Firs, healthy and full, mostly in the 5-6 foot range.

There is also the old Chubby and Tubby lot. It is located in Shoreline, but they have the same old C/T prices….206-391-4058…Last year non sheared Douglas Firs $9.99, sheared Douglas Firs $14.99 and Noble Firs $19.99. I know it’s not local, but sometimes I will venture across the bridge! ; )

We do miss White Center Chubby & Tubby, where we bought “Charlie Brown” trees a time or two in the past. Off shortly for the promised price survey! … TR

We were just driving by the West Seattle Nursery in the fog and everything looked so pretty! …The year before last, we bought our tree from our son’s school’s tree fundraiser. When we got it up to pay for it, it rang up at $110! I am inclined to get one at Holy roasary but NOT for $110!

Having been to all but one of West Seattle’s tree-selling spots in the past few hours (heading back out shortly to hit that one last spot), I have to say that’s my sentiment exactly re: the fog – all the trees we saw looked and smelled so wonderful, with the dampness accentuating the greenery (of course, everything is at its freshest this early in tree season). Big variety of trees at some places, too – and some options for “living Christmas trees” for anyone who wants those.
