West Seattle Crime Watch: Car vandalism ‘kick in the teeth’

Crime takes no holiday. Well, there’s always hope for tomorrow. But tonight, we have two reports about one case of car vandalism – one from “k,” who drove by and noticed it; then came this direct report on behalf of the victim, from Martha:

My ex-husband, who is recovering from open heart surgery, had his new little Toyota vandalized two days after his return home from the hospital last week. The CD player was taken and glove compartment rummaged through. Last night the car was spray painted with black paint “this car is gay” along the entire passenger side. Two stripes of black and white left on the driver’s side rear panel. I just discovered this this afternoon when I was visiting. I have called the police and they are sending out an officer. This is particularly upsetting to our family at this time of year and with him in such frail health. Thanks to whoever did it for an extra kick in the teeth for Christmas!

This was one of two vandalized cars noticed by “k” in the south of Admiral area; she says it was near 45th/Spokane, while the other, near 48th/Hinds, also had black spray paint on it.

Someone egged my brother-in-law’s car too (near Admiral & Belvidere), on the night of the 23rd. His was the only car on the street that was targeted.

Based on the words written, it sounds like the vandal is an idiot. “This car is gay,” really? I’m guessing that his car is neither homosexual nor happy.

I’m sorry this happened, how awful. My prayers are with him for his recovery, and I hope he’s able to have the necessary repairs done.

Thank you for posting this. The police said it was most likely a random teen prank. Our wonderful neighbors, Doug and JoAnn, came over today and were able to carefully remove most of the paint without damaging the clear coat. They really put the Christmas spirit walk with the talk!

JoAnn and Doug, Thank You sooooooo much from the family of your neighbor. This has been a tough time for my brother. You made our Christmas so much better.

our car was egged too. (belvidere and stevens),
also about the same time last year. Also another one
    down the street.
Just when I thought kids were maturing faster, oh well.

They rifled through my car at 44th/Spokane. Took some change and made a mess. The (presumably) same people come through every so often; my poor neighbor had eggs thrown inside her car.

pretty sure it was probably those kids that hang outside the chevron gas station, my car was broken into a while ago and my house was broken into by the same group of kids

Sorry, comment time is over.
