It’s been put out and cleaned up

I hope the driver is ok, the car looked like the engine exploded.

      Good point!

I don’t know why anyone buys those cars with internal combustion engines! Oil based fuels are so dangerous! (/sarcasm)

I don’t either! (not sarcasm). Internal combustion automobiles are 62 TIMES more likely to catch fire than EVs.

Exploding 60+ times per second just to sit there on the bridge.

Greg, Teslas have exploded more than any car brand all time. https://www.tesla-fire.com/index-amp

that can’t possibly be true. there’s like 100,000 vehicle fires a year, and there’s only 232 Tesla fires listed in your link. they could happen more often, but total numbers wouldn’t come close to the sheer number of other ICE models.

Derek that’s not what your link says at all.  The stats on that page are by model, not manufacturer and are only for model years 16-18, not all time.  The 5x number is after multiplying by a severity factor and is only compared “in class” and ignores any fires caused by collisions.  The only Tesla model on the list by claim frequency is the model X. Only when multiplied by the unexplained severity factor does the model S show up. No other Tesla models are listed.  If you look at all vehicles there are at least 8 vehicles with worse adjusted severity factor (your 5x metric) INCLUDING the Mercedes C class which is what appears to be in the video.

You realize the difference in how those fires burn though, right? And that battery fires are typically more destructive because of the high rate of reignition compared to gas fueled fires? Please ask your local fire fighter which one they would rather extinguish…

Sorry, comment time is over.
