Give BIG one-day donate-a-thon: How to help local nonprofits

Dozens of local nonprofits are participating in today’s Seattle Foundation‘s one-day-only GiveBIG donate-a-thon. The foundation is offering a “stretch pool” of partial matching funds, to be distributed proportionately depending on how much each participating nonprofit raises on this single day, by 11:59 pm tonight. One BIG catch: You **must** donate through the nonprofit’s special page on the foundation’s website, NOT via the nonprofit’s own website. So we have gone through the foundation’s directory to find all those special pages for participating West Seattle, White Center, and South Park-based or -founded nonprofits (and a couple parent organizations). You can also use the special “go here” links below to find out more about any of these organizations – the links take you to pages on the Seattle Foundation website with background information and links to the organizations’ own sites, as well as the donation links to use for this one-day event. (P.S. Please let us know if we missed a WS, WC, or SP-based organization – post a comment or e-mail us!)

Thanks, LMA. If people follow the link next to the WCFB listing, it talks about that as well as “Dine Out for Hunger” tonight – TR

Sound Child Care Solutions has three early childhood programs in WS. Two on Delridge, one at 9th and Henderson. They were part of Give Big last year.

Thanks, FP. Adding them. Believe me, I searched by community name, by zip code, by various other keywords, even read through the entire thousand-plus list, but I knew there’d be a few that I wouldn’t know about till somebody commented, like this – thank you! And I do hope this all inspires people to give the rest of the year, too, since with so many local participants, it’s easy to get lost in the proverbial shuffle on this one day … there are some local nonprofits with year-round events and initiatives that we wind up writing about, but it’s some of these others that go about their business quietly, that need support as well … TR

Many thanks to the West Seattle Blog for calling attention to this great giving opportunity for Seattle. WestSide Baby has already received 27 gifts for a total of $4345 at it’s not even noon yet. This covers almost TWO months rent at our operations center meaning we can fill orders for 3,000 children needing clothing, diapers, car seats and more. YEAH!!

Thanks, West Seattle Blog for mentioning our organization, as a part of GiveBig today. Multi-Communities is a small nonprofit, and 99% of services to individuals, as well as groups are provided for free., Without the help of community donations, we would be unable to provide vital services in preventing , reducing and reversing violence in West Seattle, as well as other communities. I thank you from the bottom of my heart in helping to get the word out.
