West Seattle Crime Watch update: Stolen puppy returned

E-mail just in from the Toledo family says they’ve recovered the puppy reported stolen during a burglary at a Delridge home belonging to a relative of King County Council candidate Diana Toledo, “dropped off at a local shelter this morning” by a couple who saw a TV news report about the theft. Their note thanks all the local media outlets who ran stories about the missing dog (here’s ours from last weekend).

    I’m glad the puppy is home. Now I can point out how funny / interesting it is that so many people posted comments on the original story to the effect of “OMG, who would steal a puppy? What scum!”, as if it’s OK to break into someone’s house, but once you’ve stolen a puppy, you’ve crossed some sort of line.

    But, um, where did this couple get the puppy? Anybody ask?

    Desperate election stunt by Toledo camp? The whole story was odd and didn’t add up from the beginning.

    Like KatherineL, I’m also curious how the couple who dropped off the puppy at the shelter came into possession of the puppy in the first place?

    @Whoa,

    You’re an idiot.

      We have a rule against blaming crime victims. Accusing them of making it up, or staging something, is right up there, so that line of discussion stops right here. The WSB Forums went off on that tangent and the forums are a little looser (though still not anything-goes), but we hold the news discussion/comment sections to a higher standard. Facts are: A burglary was reported. (We checked the police-call map, as we do with all reader-reported crimes.) Police were called. A dog was reported missing. The dog is now reported back. Thanks – TR

    Stealing is always bad but possesions are just “things”, you can buy more, most of us, including me, have too many things anyway. A puppy is a living, laughing lump of love and the taking of such a thing is a far worse crime morally than taking “stuff”.

    Glad the doggie is back and I hope karma puts in extra hours giving the thief a fun reward appropriate to the evil done.

    Please tell us more details on this happy news! Can Diana’s family comment?? What happened?

    I am sorry it has taken so long for me to comment-the puppy is ours- our front door was kicked in and our sweet puppy was taken from us. On Wednesday we got the call that she had been found and was healthy and safe. All the information has been handed over to the police to try to find the person that did this- but from what I understood was the couple that turned her over saw my daughter on TV and called Kiro stating they thought they had the stolen puppy- they said they bought her at a park- Kiro told them to turn her into the shelter. I hope that helps with all the questions- we do not have a description yet (well I don’t the police might) but we are still investigating the break in

Sorry, comment time is over.
