Countdown to Easter: West Seattle egg hunts announced

That photo’s from the West Seattle Thriftway egg hunt last year – always a hugely popular tradition. Just a few hours ago, we got a note that this year’s event is set for 9 am April 3rd, and just now, the city has just sent its list of egg hunts at local parks/community centers – see the full list here. We’re working on our West Seattle Easter page right now; we invite everyone with Easter-related events/specials, from church services to brunches to egg hunts and beyond, to share the info with us so it’ll be on the page (here’s our contact info).

  1. One of my favorite memories is of going to the egg hunt at Hiawatha and getting the big prize. My brother and father took me and it was held on the tennis court.

  2. Thriftway is a class act and they do a really nice job with the egg hunt. I only wish that they would ditch the “big prizes” and stick with candy and little trinkets in the plastic eggs so that it really is a fun event for kids (as it’s meant to be) – rather than an opportunity for all the greedy parents to run through the store dragging their crying toddlers while they fill up multiple grocery bags (despite the requested “20 egg” limit) looking for the new wii or bike or whatever. It is such a turn off!

  3. lol – I reworded my post to WS Thriftway’s Facebook page that was basically the same thing ‘add’ said.
I think self-restraint is apparently very difficult for some of the parents at the egg hunt there.
Last year was our first try at the hunt and we had fun but it was sad to see the kids at the end of the line getting practically nothing compared to the folks that had over-flowing large baskets and left popped-open non-prize eggs scattered in the aisles.
    The response from Thriftway:
“There is a 30-40 egg limit, and this year we have well over 20,000 eggs.
We try to keep an eye on the folks that take more than their share, but as you can imagine with all the folks in here it is tough to watch everyone. We have a reserve supply for those that get in toward the end of the line – but our best advice is getting here a little early.”
