(For original report with background on what this is about, go here)

1:56 PM UPDATE: Adam shot photos separate from the webcam, and here are two of them (above and below).

Note the burning car tipped on its side; WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand, who was covering this on the ground, says hydraulics were used.

ADDED 4:23 PM: Three WSB video clips – first, the car (a BMW) as it burned:

Second, the fire being put out:

Third, a hooded contestant arriving at the shoot:

The plot of “The Phone” apparently involves contestants answering ringing cell phones in major cities, and embarking on an action-packed race for cash prizes. We’ll watch to see when it’s scheduled to premiere — and we’ll be looking to see when this episode turns up. One more photo: Adam snapped the helicopter that was participating in the shoot – note the attached camera:

Published earlier in the afternoon:

1:12 PM UPDATE: Much better pictures from the webcam mentioned below, sent by Adam (thank you AGAIN!). What follows is what we originally posted at 12:54 pm:

That’s a screen grab from a couple minutes ago via the camera.eastalki.com webcam set up across the street from Seacrest, where – as first reported here yesterday – the TV show “The Phone” is shooting today, and their promised “detonation” simulating a car explosion was just set off. Lots more pix/video to come later. (Reminder, the parking restrictions remain in effect till 6 pm.)

  3. I wish you would explain WHERE these places are, some of us are new to the area and don’t know the names and areas around.

  4. Hi. Sorry I didn’t inline link it today (I will fix that) but in the coverage linked from yesterday, I did. Everything in blue in every WSB post is a link and we usually link place names to their official info-pages if they have one (city parks, etc.); if places don’t have info-pages, we will often link a map afterward. Seacrest is on Harbor Avenue, east of Alki, and it’s home to the Water Taxi dock when that passenger ferry is in operation (not year round till 2010).

  5. “Seacrest Park” is located on the east side of Duwamish Head, close to where California Ave eventually meets Alki Avenue. Starting in April, Seacrest Park is a landing for the West Seattle Water Taxi, and many local yokels know it because of that connection.

  6. Gotta luv Hollywood! I wonder if there was anyone over on the other side of Elliot Bay who saw that and called it in to the police :-)

  8. WTF. Since when does entertainment trump our clean air and our clean ocean? I hope this film company is doing more then just planting a tree or two. It’s time to grow up. We are facing extinction, everything matters at this late hour.

  9. Seriously, MargL, this is why we have a problem with the fact that this sort of thing is not announced in advance, except with notices to immediate neighbors.
We’ve asked the city Film Office before about how to get alerts — and basically, apparently, productions are supposed to have the right to secrecy.
Maybe that’s kind of OK if, as with something we covered last year, a film crew suddenly shows up in Lincoln Park, takes up part of just one of several parking lots, and shoots scenes that aren’t particularly disruptive.
But no public alert about a shoot that closed off the entire parking lot of a city park, plus parking along several blocks of Harbor, AND includes a giant fireball explosion that can be seen for miles around because of its location? In a day and age when people are still jittery about terrorism? (We have heard from at least one person whose spouse says it was visible/audible across the water, too.)

  11. What about the carbon footprint of that fire!

Global warming, I mean cooling, I mean climate change, I mean cooling is out of control!

This just killed a polar bear, I’m sure of it!

  14. They are really cracking down on overnight campers….

  15. Thats why there were two police and one bomb squad car racing up and down Harbor all day.

I’d watch the show if there were no commercials, so yeah, definitely not going to be watching this one.

  16. BeFree – The cars you mentioned were not SPD but belonged to the production crew. The “Seattle police” driving the cars you saw were two guys with impossibly thick Australian accents.

  17. Aussie cops? I might watch the show just for that!!!!

  19. How’s the driver?

  20. I’m glad the explosion wasn’t part of the filming at the downtown library yesterday. There was no parking allowed anywhere around the building, and they blocked off the escalators for an hour or so while shooting on the 3rd floor.

  21. You can’t build a beach fire, but if you pay ‘em a couple grand you can blow up as many used cars as you’d like.

  22. Way to be environmentally sensitive. Disgusting!!!
