Reader reports: Cat, birds shot with BBs/pellets

Two separate incidents – but both came to us first as reader reports (police reports have been filed too) from neighbors who want to alert you. First, Michael sent his report with this photo – we debated putting it behind a jump but it’s not particularly gory – just distressing, considering what his kitty is recovering from:

I live on 25th Ave SW one block off of Delridge between Hudson and Brandon. My cat was shot in the hindquarter with either a BB gun or pellet rifle. (see attached pictures) I just wanted to put the word out in case anyone else’s pet has suffered this class C felony and wanted to warn the neighborhood to watch out for their pets.

Not long after Michael’s report came in, we got this forwarded by Sheila in High Point, who also wanted to put it out as an alert to neighbors:

On Monday June 23 some kids were chasing a injured pigeon that was shot with a BB gun. A neighbor caught that pigeon and I called the Seattle animal shelter and it was picked up the next day. [An officer] said if we see anything, call the shelter at 206-386-7387. Nothing was done to the kids since we didn’t see who shot the pigeon.

Saturday night (28th) another neighbor was walking [in the 30th & Graham area] and found another pigeon. This one was dead and there was a small hole with blood, it had appeared to be shot. I called the animal shelter Sunday morning and told them what happened. They said since I didn’t see it happen they cannot do anything about it. Please keep a look out for kids with a BB gun and please report it to the police (911).

Oh poor kitty! Thanks for the heads up, I don’t let my kitties out of my sight if they’re outside.

This is how it starts (Childhood Behavior Traits) …once they do this (Cruelty to Animals) such as to birds or cats they are on the road to doing even more scary deeds…This needs to be stopped ASAP and whoever is at large with the BB gun needs some deep seeded help from a professional.
My heart goes to the poor animals – its just sad and wrong.

DJ is absolutely right — it scares me what people are willing to do to “defenseless” creatures. I stopped having outdoor cats when my wonderful cat, spike farkas, was shot and killed with a bow and arrow at 5:30 a.mm. in a very urban area back east. The police said it must have been an accident — which I found even more frightening — someone was just randomly firing off arrows at dawn and hit spike?

And, as everyone said, thanks for letting us know.

    Poor things.

What is really sad is that the parents of these kids are just letting them run free with no supervision – and the thought that is even scarier is that it may be young adults, or teenagers that are doing this and they should know better.

Eye for an eye… they’ll get theirs.

I live on Delridge/Trenton and hear gun shots or fire crackers (?) every night since Friday. I hope they are just fire crackers.

This is awful….I continue to be shocked at the very rude and bad behavior since nice weather has arrived. I live near Aliki and never see any police but plenty of gangster thugs blasting their obsence rap musuc and looking at everyone with hate and anger. i worst is the decent folk can not even say anythiong to them for fear of having our house burned or our body harmed. It is a terrible thi9ng that we have allowed those thugs to take over….seems even the few cops around of afraid to intervene. Shooting innocent creatures is only the first step for many sick individuals and Ihope they are caught and punished. After all how can we expect to control this type pf behavior if the kids know niothing will be done. Never in my life at many seaside towns have I seen such glaring disrespect for others!!!!

It’s absolutely disgusting that anyone would be so cruel. We’re keeping our eyes open for anything like this in our area as well.

read that about aliki. not going there any more, and none of my family, if its that bad, and the mayor and police won,t do any thing, then its time to get rid of the mayor and elect some one who will clean it out, and also send the police chief packing like the last one.

Sorry, comment time is over.
