ws4everMemberVashon’s French roast was served at a friend’s house. Great stuff! Nice strong taste and easy on the stomach lining, which is first priority for me.

ellenaterMemberLighthouse is best to me. So much love for them. I can even make it at home. George at C&P pulls the best shots. The decaf is astoundingly good.

ws4everMemberOops, the words I chose probably weren’t the best. Which coffee beans/ground coffee that you buy at a supermarket/Costco/etc., make in your coffeemaker at home, tastes great, is easy on your stomach, and is in the low to medium price range? Thanks–

MargLMemberWe’ve been partial to Peet’s Major Dickason’s Blend. It’s not the -most- expensive but it’s not exactly cheap, either. I usually stock up when it’s on sale at Safeway. Wish they carried it at Costco…

flowerpetalMemberI go to Tully’s and buy a bag of Sulawesi. It is full bodied and just what I need in my coffee maker in the morning. If you come to enjoy it; plan ahead for your next purchase as it is sometimes not on the shelf which typically happens when I procrastinate until my cannister is empty!

it would help to know if your are a fan of darker roasts such as those served at Starbucks or lighter roasts?

flowerpetalMemberJoB, the Sulawesi is a darker roast; like French Roast (sorta) but more complex. A lighter roast that too is a treat is Tully’s Evergreen. Its just not the wow I need in the morning.

squareeyesParticipantMy absolute favorite grocery store bag o’ coffee is Peets French Roast. However, I am currently buying Cafe Bustelo online at javacabana dot com for a third of the cost of Peets (even at Safeway on sale prices).

squareeyesParticipantJavacabana is in Florida, a 10oz brick of Cafe Bustelo is only $3.03 (10oz can is $3.30), no sales tax, no shipping fees. My last order took at least a couple of weeks. Since it’s so inexpensive, I order about six bricks at a time. When I’m down to two I’ll order again. As for freshness, I love my coffee but don’t seem to notice between fresh/not fresh so I can’t help you there. Granted, it’s not Peets, so it’s not the joy that Peets is – but it is a good balance of taste vs cost. They sell other brands of coffee too…

inactiveMemberI get Tully’s French Roast – it is’t my fave, but nice n smokey if the beans are fresh; plus the price is about as expensive as I can justify. But dang squareeyes, I will be checking javacabana. CHEAP!
And, one can always blend more spendy stuff with cheaper stuff. Sometimes it works; sometimes not really great. Oh well.
Lately, If I could justfy it, I would use Cafe Appassionato or the Ravensbrew they serve up at Bird. Very nice.

heidiParticipantIt’s usually best to buy from the smaller independents…they buy smaller quantities more frequently so you are assured the freshest beans. Also it’s really good idea to grind each pot fresh. I just got a grinder at Target for $15. Ask your favorite shop when their coffee was delivered and if there are any specials blends their roaster is offering!
