RAEMemberWHY would you do business with CHASE? CHASE was handed WAMU on a silver platter (A PENNY ON THE DOLLER), eagerly financing Mountain top removal mining in W. Virginia, BIG BONUSES, Canceling funding of our Lake Union Forth of July Fireworks?!!! Come on all you CHASE customers! Have a little self respect and civic pride and STOP DOING BUSINESS WITH CHASE. Lets have a little economic democracy here! There are other options. So MOVE YOUR MONEY NOW ! ALL OF IT1

rockhillsMemberDon’t know. I stopped giving them business long before they took over WAMU. It wasn’t a political decision, I just didn’t like the way they treated their most important customer (me).

EmmyJaneParticipantHi RAE- I used to work for WaMu, up until the “acquisition”, so you can imagine I’d be the first type to jump on this bandwagon. HOWEVER, I think we must remember and shift blame to WHO “handed WAMU on a silver platter” to Chase, and those responsible for putting the company in a position where it [possibly, still to be determined] needed to be taken over. I don’t think a lot of people or companies would turn down an offer like that…
As for Chase canceling funding of the fireworks- I can’t blame them. Would you be upset if you owned stock in Microsoft and they were funding firework shows all over the country? I think its one thing if you fund it for the town where you’re headquartered, but I don’t think its owed to every place you have employees and customers. Chase funded it for the year after they acquired WaMu and that was a great thing.
I’m as bitter as they come regarding this situation; I lost stock, I lost a job I loved, but we have to be realistic in the responsibilities of Chase.
Now, if you want to talk customer service, then go right ahead. :-)

bluebirdMemberAnd WAMU is an innocent victim with no involvement in the subprime mess.
No particular love here for Chase, but being ordered to do something in all caps on a forum, doesn’t make me want act.

celeste17ParticipantDon’t forget that they gave the money that they would have spent on the fireworks to the food banks. At least that is what I remember hearing.
February 25, 2010 at 7:06 am #689210
JustSarahParticipantCeleste, no, that was Ivar’s donating to Northwest Harvest instead of funding the Fourth of Jul-Ivar’s.
February 25, 2010 at 8:45 pm #689211
dhgParticipantYou are correct. I see it as a West Coast East Coast thing. The powers-that-be in the East have the power to raid West Coast businesses. Microsoft, as an example, used to pay next to nothing for lobbyists but wised up after the monopoly lawsuit hit them. Now they pay a whole lot of money to East Coast lobbyists and politicians and the lawsuits have melted away.
And yes, I have opened a BECU account, I just need to transfer and close my Chase account.
February 25, 2010 at 9:39 pm #689212
JanSParticipantdhg…we see that east coast thing in more than just the money thing. Have you turned on the NBC coverage
of the Olympics? We are 3 hours away from the venues, but I can get the results from my east coast friends/news before they’re even shown here.:(
I gave up on Chase quite some time ago.
February 26, 2010 at 5:27 am #689213
RAEMemberYES INDEED, Emmyjane, and BLUEBIRD. WaMu dug their own grave.
Decisions made by higher ups of WaMu were breathtaking in their arrogants. Then the bank is seized and handed to CHASE. And real hard working people are left in the wreckage with nothing. An example of capitalism RUN AMUCK! However, in this country we can still vote with our money and choose not to do do business with a huge eastcoast (global) bank that is heavily invested in EPIC environmental destruction… with YOUR money! SO YAH, MOVE YOUR MONEY! NOW! …. ok, tomorrow! ….. if you want. …….. But really, ……… only if you feel like it.
February 26, 2010 at 6:12 pm #689214
alki_2008ParticipantJanS…blame the time-zones on such things as television broadcasts. NBC shows the Olympics coverage on a time delay…they want you to pay (cable) for MSNBC to get it live. Then it doesn’t matter what coast you’re on.

dawsonctParticipantDo you suppose Kerry Killinger is pounding the pavement, resume in hand, pinching pennies at home until he has the security of a job again?
Nah, I don’t think so. I doubt there is any remorse, either.

RAEMemberChase says “No Way, No Fireworks” Seattle can just go to —-! But give us your money, OK? Time to move your money folks.
April 2, 2010 at 3:37 pm #689217
JoBParticipantThere is a reason so many of us have done our business with credit unions over the years… tho some of the larger are beginning to emulate the big banks:(
your bank’s success or failure shouldn’t depend upon their political clout.. which was the case with WaMu…
You do get to vote with your money… so go ahead and vote for responsible customer oriented banking.
btw.. Chase gets our last check next week… but the grin would be as big no matter which bank it was we were paying off :))))
April 2, 2010 at 4:10 pm #689218
maplesyrupParticipantI’m no fan of any big bank these days but if I were them I’d consider scrapping the project as well. What’s in it for them? It’s not like the fireworks show ends with a gigantic Chase logo in the sky.
April 2, 2010 at 4:16 pm #689219
JoBParticipantmaplesyrup…
is investing in your community and getting business in return such an old fashioned concept these days?
Maybe so
it seems investing in your company.. in infrastructure or in employees is now considered an old fashioned concept…
in spite of the evidence of the long term folly of profitability at any expense as a business plan.
April 2, 2010 at 4:24 pm #689220
maplesyrupParticipantMy point is they’re not getting a whole lot for their “investment”. I bet 98% of Seattle had no idea they were even funding the fireworks prior to this announcement.
I’d rather see them invest in small business loans and new branches that create jobs.
April 2, 2010 at 4:29 pm #689221
JoBParticipantmaplesyrup…
great idea.. and if it were an either/or proposition i might agree with you..
but i suspect the real goal here is neither.
Chase is not currently pursuing small local accounts… their current advertising plan focuses on the fact that you can access your money anywhere you go… not that you are investing locally.
April 2, 2010 at 7:53 pm #689222
flowerpetalMemberI’m no big fan of fireworks; so it is no deterrent for me to switch my home mortgage from Chase. Perhaps a more positive approach than grousing at Chase would be to express your interest to your local bank to take their turn in financing the firworks. Chase nee WAMU took their turn.
April 2, 2010 at 9:55 pm #689223
alki_2008ParticipantWhy would Chase fund a fireworks show in Seattle, when they are not headquartered here? Seattle is where most of WaMu’s corporate employees lived and worked, so it made sense that WaMu funded the fireworks show in Seattle…but Chase is headquartered in Ohio and Delaware. If they’re going to fund a fireworks show, then shouldn’t it be in Columbus or Wilmington?
Chase now (after acquiring WaMu) has local branches in markets all over the country…so why would a show in Seattle be preferred over a show in Los Angeles or Dallas or Miami?
April 3, 2010 at 7:45 pm #689224
JoBParticipantalki2008..
you just made the point..
anyone thinking Chase is a local bank
or will actually replace the local bank it purchased for pennies on the dollar
is a fool…
think global.. buy local..
is a great idea when it comes to banking too
April 4, 2010 at 6:27 am #689225
BuddyParticipantYeah….Chase *&^%& what matters…done with them myself….
April 10, 2010 at 5:01 pm #689226
junctiongardenergirlMemberI have also been pretty disappointed with the wamu/chase transition and subsequent rule changes. Having to wait an extra day to access my paycheck every month is not what I thought I was in for when the bank changed hands.
April 10, 2010 at 8:32 pm #689227
JoBParticipantMy son is after me to open an account a BECU for my household account…
where he tells me they actually thank you for putting your money in their credit union by paying you interest…
novel idea
unlike the Bank of America account which now wants me to keep $700 in their bank interest free to keep from being charged a $10/mo service fee for my account:(
i’m thinking..
it’s a hard choice here ;->
April 11, 2010 at 1:07 pm #689228
EscondidoMemberMove your money to a local credit union AND, if you are able, pay off all your Chase credit cards.
