ForestParticipantI intend to squander a few bucks on mega lotto tickets (not scratch tickets) this week. Where do you buy them in the Admiral neighborhood? I imagine the Admiral 7-Eleven, but the retailer search engine at the state lottery website finds no ticket outlets north of the W.S. Junction.

WSBKeymasterI’ve bought them there before. And I’m almost certain the Admiral Safeway carries them too.

JanSParticipantYes….Safeway sells them at the front of the store…

miwsParticipantForest, the Mega Jackpot is back down to it’s starting point of a measly $12 Million.
I heard a blip on the news last night, which I believe said there were two, non-Washington State, winners of the big one.

christopherboffoliParticipantYou’re always better off buying just one Mega Millions ticket at a time. Buying multiple tickets doesn’t increase your chances of winning the jackpot by anything more than a miniscule amount.

JanSParticipantHey…I could retire on 12 mil, how about you? :)

ForestParticipantThanks to all for the retailer confirmations and for the insider tips on how to better my odds of winning this week’s grand prize of only(!) $12 million. I’m going for broke and buying 3 tickets at once, which will push my investment in lotto gambling this year to over five dollars.

flowerpetalMemberEach line of numbers has the same odds. So you don’t increase your odds so to speak, but you will have three lines; same odds. Good luck.
There was a jackpot winner at from the 7-11 about a year ago (?). Retired attorney as I remember; out with his cronies for lunch at the restaurant across the street; and they stopped in for tickets and shared the winnings.
Buying from that location though doesn’t increase your odds either.
Good luck!
And if you take the payout, you would get about half before taxes and end up with 4.? million. Can you live off of that? :~)

christopherboffoliParticipantBuying three tickets with miniscule odds is a waste of money. Buy one just to have a shot at it.
.
The odds are likely in excess of 1:175,000,000! So you’re betting on the fact that if you had a swimming pool with 175 million m&ms in it that you’d be picking the right one. You can pick 3 m&ms out of the pool but that still leaves the same colossal odds against you.
Of course you’d still have 174,999,997 m&ms which is a jackpot in itself (because they melt in your mouth, not in your hand).
.
I’ll leave it to the mathematicians to figure out the opportunity cost of spending $3 per week (in after tax dollars) on lottery tickets over a 20 year span. I’m sure the figure, if invested wisely, would be a mini-jackpot in itself with much better odds of actually happening.
.
One tip: Apparently your chances are better if you select tickets based on random numbers. People who play the same numbers (based on birthdays, etc.) are decreasing the odds of winning even further.

JanSParticipantflowerpetal…I’m living on 2 mil now, so 4 mil would be great – lol..
oh…that’s dollars you’re talking about…my 2 mil is just dreams ;-)

JayDeeParticipantWell my favorite quote concerning the Lotto is that it is a tax on the mathematically challenged. But I can see how a lotto ticket is a cheap dream until someone gets the pot. BTW, Waking Ned Devine is a great little flick about the lottery…
