MarySheelyMemberI’m being kind here… Is standing on a hill overlooking a lot of folks who came out to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine along the shore and blowing into a horn (literally, some kind of animal horn) in a very loud, very carrying, and quite atonal way some kind of religious ceremony? This went on this evening for more than an hour…we were walking so we escaped it for a time down the beach, but we clearly heard picnickers and others yelling at the dude to shut up.
What is up? I’m sorry, man, if this is something I don’t understand, but all it sounded like to me was, well, very annoying.

pigeonmomParticipant**warning** cranky post ahead!
I’ve been tortured by that noise (and neighborhood beach fire smoke-another topic) for hours at work. There is no escape for me at the ferry dock and it makes for an awfully long day.
That dude should shove his horn up the butts of the driftwood burning fire lovers and give us a break.
That is all.

velo_nutParticipantHis park too!

KBearParticipant“His park too!”
Not to use in a way that unreasonably deprives others of their use or enjoyment of the park. Which is exactly what he’s doing.

bebecatMemberI am so with you on this one Velo_nut. I like Seacrest park. But hate the Water Taxi. It is noisy stinks and causes congestion. The shuttles stink too. Seems to pollute the whole area with exhaust and noise. But hey other people love it so there. I can say it has deprived me of my enjoyment of that park. But no ones listening.
June 1, 2010 at 10:14 pm #695543
KBearParticipantVelo_nut, horn-blowing may well be art, but that doesn’t mean he’s entitled to do it for extended periods of time in a city park.
June 1, 2010 at 10:21 pm #695544
velo_nutParticipantKbear… Yes, it does. Who made you ruler of the galaxy?
June 1, 2010 at 10:25 pm #695545
mrhinehMembervelo, hope you feel the same way about kids in the nature parks.
June 1, 2010 at 10:39 pm #695546
KBearParticipantVelo_nut, it’s not my rule. I’m pretty sure incessant horn-blowing would fall under section 3.2.2 of the Parks Department’s code of conduct.

MargLMemberLook up SMC 25.08.500 Public disturbance noises – and see paragraph D.
It reads like unless he’s warned by a police officer to stop it (after someone makes a complaint) it’s not actually against the law…
So – if he’s making noise and everyone’s OK with it then he’s not breaking a law, if he’s warned by an officer and doesn’t stop, then it’s unlawful.
Kinda like riding a bike naked, I guess.

velo_nutParticipantmrhineh, I don’t really understand your question but kids+parks= cool in my book.
KBear, stop being a cranky pants. and no, in my mind 3.2.2 doesnt cover a guy blowing a horn in a park.
First no bike race in the park, then no horn blowing. What’s next?
June 1, 2010 at 11:07 pm #695549
KBearParticipantAh, now we get to the crux of the matter. “If I can’t annoy people in the park with my vegetation-obliterating bike race, at least let the guy irritate people with his horn.” Nice.

velo_nutParticipantWhatever KBear, I’m done argueing with you.
I’m sorry we don’t all live in your white washed and perfect world.

rdmParticipantA classic example of the passive-agressiveness of Seattle. Has anyone talked to the man and asked him to stop? I belive under the rules of the rant you have to explain what you have done to mitigate the situation before you rant about it.
June 2, 2010 at 1:18 am #695553
JanSParticipantrdm..yes, someone needs to walk up to the gentleman and ask him to stop. I want to know what kind of horn. Bugle? One of those annoying plastic parade horn thingies? a conch shell? (maybe he’s doing it as a ritual to greet the day, you never know). He may be oblivious that he’s annoying others, that it’s a park, and how many are really gonna hear it? Maybe someone should just walk up to him , “hey, buddy, nice horn…can I see it for a moment?”….and take it from there….literally ;-)
Velo – I’m sure you’d feel differently if this guy was standing on the street corner near your house, bellowing his horn at all hours of the day. Don’t be so quick to judge other people who post on here…you might just find the shoe on the other foot sometime. Then what?
June 2, 2010 at 1:44 am #695554
pigeonmomParticipantOP says people were telling him to stop. I’d tell him too but I’m stuck at work.
June 2, 2010 at 5:44 pm #695555
JoBParticipantsomebody needed to take the next step after asking him to stop and failing.. call the police and file a complaint.

melissaParticipantWhen I first read this, I thought, Oh, what a bunch of stick-in-the-muds! Then I heard him. At first I wondered who would be strangling a water buffalo on the bluff. Then I saw ANOTHER guy with a horn approaching the first. And then…it got worse. I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but guy #2 had a huge ram’s horn. And he wasn’t expert with it. So the two of them started ablowin’ & it was, well, it was the aural version of Pandora’s Box. All the evils of the world, unleashed right there. My poor dog, whom I was walking, was terrified by the noise. His ears went back, he skittered and pulled on the leash. I sympathized.
June 9, 2010 at 4:10 am #695559
pigeonmomParticipantThank you Melissa! It is pure torture.
