MarieMemberI’m wondering if anyone would be interested in forming a song circle in WS. Unlike a choir or other formal singing group, this would be for people who simply enjoy singing. No auditions, no membership fees, no performances to rehearse for. We would just get together once a week in someone’s living room and sing for the fun of it. We’d model it after the Seattle and Portland Song Circles. Mostly folk singing, and familiar standards, but could include some jazz, blue grass, etc.
You can bring song books you like, instruments if you play them. A popular book for these groups is “Rise Up Singing” a compilation of 1200 songs, which is inexpensive and available online.
The idea would be to get together at venues here in West Seattle, so we don’t have to spend a lot of time driving to other parts of the city.
The way a song circle works is that we take turns going around the circle. When it is your turn you can lead a song, request a song or pass. Beyond observing the rules of common courtesy, that’s about it. We’d meet from 7 – 10 p.m. on whatever night works for most people. Hopefully, several people can rotate the hosting duties, so it doesn’t all fall on one household.
Questions? Suggestions? Interested?
Please let me know.
Thanks,

WSBKeymasterI linked this to the WSB FB page so that the folks we have there

will hear about it too. Always glad to hear about folks organizing something new and different. If it gets going, maybe I’ll drop in sometime … former singer … not much time now for anything but covering the news :)
