stuwidmanParticipantCan someone recommend a property mgt company, or a realtor who will work with me on finding a house to rent in West Seattle? I am moving from Texas in March, and I have visited the area, but I need help with specific neighborhoods. Craigslist has lots of properties, but it is too overwhelming. Thanks in advance.

JoBParticipantthe very best advice i can give you is to put as much of your stuff in storage as you can and live in a short term rental for a month or even two while you check out local rentals.
i know that seems like a terribly expensive way to go.. but the money you save by finding a long term rental that actually meets your needs is likely to far exceed the costs of paying too much for a rental that suits someone else’s ideas of what you need and the costs of eventually moving to a more appropriate rental.
We were lucky.. the more expensive less suitable rental well meaning people steered us to included a stellar view.
it was the saving grace that almost made the thousands in excess costs by the time we lived out our year’s lease and found a more suitable rental bearable.

datamuseParticipantAs a librarian I should know this, but how do you find out who the landlord or rental agent is for a rental property? The renters at the end of our block moved on (thank god, they were a nuisance) and I’d love to recommend the place to someone responsible…
