ikaikaMemberRemoved the mirror above the fire place and found a painting of Mt Rainer from Weaver Dial dated 1955. Did a search on him and he seems like an interesting fellow. Anybody know if he lived in West Seattle or anything more about him other than riding box cars and being a Seafair pirate?

WSBKeymasterSince it looks like he’s memorialized on the Seafair Pirates’ site, I would suggest you e-mail them (should be a contact address at seafairpirates.org) – I bet they’d be delighted to tell what they know. Unless it’s a secret destined for the briny deep, of course …
Side note, why would anyone hide a painting with a mirror? Or was it built into the same frame?

GenHillOneParticipanthmmm…I read this differently – was the painting ON the wall? I envisioned somone placing a large plate glass mirror over the whole thing and you found the painting when removing the mirror.
If that is the case, maybe you could look up your home’s history here and see if you find a connection around that time:

ikaikaMemberThe mirror is about 8 x 4 and I could never understand why it wasn’t centered over the fire place. It’s not built into the frame but over it.
