Just had my first rufous hummingbird of the year in my back yard at the Manzanita bush. Very Cool!! don’t know if i will see him at the feeder since it is “owned” by an anna’s who has claimed it all winter.

Haha, I thought the same thing! Probably don’t want to make any hummingbird ice cream with that name though….

it might be hard for them to hold the tiny cones as their beaks are so long….

The ice cream could be liquefied and put in feeders. That’s how we eat ice cream in the Linguini household….

For hummingbirds it is best to dye the liquified ice cream red so they know it is for them.

Good point T. Perhaps it would also be prudent for there to be a small perch attached to the feeder in the event they are unable to beat their wings 40-80 times per second, and need to rest up before moving on to the next ice cream feeder.

i see them upclose and personal as i have one of those suction-cup feeders (highly recommend). if you are still, you will be four inches from them as they feed. me and eddie (cat avatar) watched one yesterday. imagine dining on nectar with a big cat-face watching you! now that there is a rufous in the yard, they’re all pissed off:( i haven’t offered them any ice cream yet. do they make honeysuckle ice cream?
