FlyonthewallMemberI had already made up my mind to vote no on this because private L & I insurers will jack up premiums just like private health insurers, but just to check my understanding I gave a copy of the Initiative to my two Workers’ Comp. Judge friends in Florida (a privatized, very heavily litigated WC state)to review.
Their collective conclusion: Keep the system we have. They believe that the insurers will not only jack up WC rates statewide by huge percentages (in Florida 10-15% per year) but they will deny more claims and delay provision of benefits to “starve out” and/or discourage injured workers from pursuing claims, causing an onslaught of workers’ comp. hearings, appeals and attorneys fees. In fact, both Judges stated that they wished Florida’s system was more like Washington’s current state-run one.
A good rule to follow: think twice before giving any money to insurance companies whose bottom line is to maximize profit at the expense of dispensing benefits and reasonable premiums.

JanSParticipantabsolutely agree. Thank you. I’m an L & I provider…I accept both state claims and private WC claims. The private ones take longer to get paid, they have way too many IME’s (independent medical exams, their docs), trying to get out of paying. Our system is just fine right now.

CarsonParticipant1082 is backed by the BIAW, the BIAW backed Dino both times he ran for Governor. 1082 might pledge to pave my driveway in gold and diamonds and I would still vote no.

JoBParticipantprivatizing public services doesn’t benefit the public.
no matter how badly you think a public service is managed..
at least a public service doesn’t have to make a profit or pacify stock holders or wall street.
With a public service… if they make a profit.. that money rolls right back to you.
