    Job Description

    Agency Overview:
    The West Seattle Food Bank (WSFB) is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen the community through the power of neighbors helping neighbors, working to ensure all in our community have access to the essential necessities of living. The agency was established in 1983 and in March of 2020 merged with the West Seattle Helpline (WSH) to expand services. Primary services include distribution of food, financial assistance, clothes, and referrals for additional services and resources. The agency serves 1,000 – 2,000 households every week. Service area is primarily in the southwest portion of Seattle (West Seattle). In addition to the above services the agency also assists with supplies for infants and children and offers free pet food.

    Position Overview and Job Description:
    Transportation Coordinator will be responsible for driving agency vehicles to pick up food from local retailers and other donors and overseeing mobile food distributions. This will include maintaining a schedule of other van drivers, overseeing maintenance of agency vehicles, ensuring proper handling of food items and participating in other tasks related to food bank operations. The Transportation Coordinator is required to develop a thorough working knowledge and understanding of all aspects associated with food bank operations, must be a team player with demonstrated ability to direct activities in a very busy environment, and comfortable working with individuals from very diverse backgrounds. Use of personal vehicle may be required at times for smaller pickups or for home deliveries. This position will report to the WSFB Program Manager for Food Bank Services.

    Transportation Coordinator responsibilities will include action or oversight in the following areas:
    Maintaining schedule of donation pickups and special pickups assuring proper documentation and receipts of donations.
    Safely securing, storing, and distributing food and other items.
    Providing adequate training and supervision of volunteers involved in food rescue and mobile food bank operations.
    Ensuring services are provided in a confidential, culturally competent, and respectful manner and handling volunteer and shopper comments and complaints regarding operations.
    Accurate documentation and data management for food pick-ups and mobile food bank sites.
    Ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of the van, facility, and surrounding grounds.
    Other duties as required.

    Qualifications:
    A Bachelor’s degree or direct experience working with low-income individuals in a social service, employment, or educational setting.
    Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of local ethnic communities and low-income populations.
    Excellent time management skills and the ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
    Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, volunteers, and service recipients.
    The ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
    Bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese or Somali strongly preferred.
    Possess a valid Washington State driver’s license, a working automobile available to use for food bank business, show proof of automobile liability insurance, and have a good driving record.
    Be proficient with Microsoft Office software.
    Possess a Washington State Food Worker Card or obtain one within one week of date of hire.
    Must pass a criminal background check through the State Patrol.
    The successful candidate will need to provide evidence of full vaccination for COVID-19 and maintain full vaccination status.

    Salary and Benefits:
    Wages and Hours: $20-25/hour DOE, 25- 35 hours per week, non-exempt. Some weekends and evenings may be required.
    Benefits: Paid personal (sick) leave, vacation leave after six months, 9 paid holidays/year, health insurance, 401K after 6 months of employment.
