LibraParticipantRight on Rae……the issue is way beyond what the city is imposing! It’s reached the point of total neglect and an unnecessary eyesore to our community! I think he would elicit a lot more sympathy if he would at least make a minimal attempt to improve the property. If you don’t have the money rent out the parking lot–I’m sure Diamond could generate some revenue to pay for it.

JanSParticipantwell, now…I will disagree, RAE. You can come on here and b*t*h about someone in your neighborhood, yet you can’t sit down with them and lay it out, and ask what’s up? That’s pretty chicken in my book. Now…the rules of the forum. If you have a rant about someone, you have to confront them first and see what they are going to do. Then you can rant.
“If you are posting a rant about a business, YOU MUST SAY WHAT STEPS YOU TOOK FIRST TO NOTIFY ITS OWNERSHIP/MANAGEMENT. If you took those steps and still want to tell the world, fine, but this is NOT the place to come just to rag on a business without having let them know directly.”
As far as I am concerned, this is turning in a rant of epic proportions.
It’s got Landmark status, Libra…he can’t rent the front steps without contacting the Landmark Preservation Board first.

LibraParticipantI was suggesting that they rent out the parking lot not the “front steps”–does the parking lot have landmark status too???? Not sure if we’re “ranting” about a business since a legal business doesn’t really exist. It’s simply a property owner who is blatantly neglecting his property, and I don’t think any of us need to contact him to tell him something he already knows!

WSBKeymasterPublicly ranting about any specific person without contacting them directly is a violation of our rules.
Mr. Lin has an e-mail address that has been published on our site before with his permission, so it’s public, and I reached him that way earlier this year, so I believe he still monitors it:
Meantime, if you think any city rules are being broken, you can complain via the DPD, which was the case earlier this year. Just looking unkempt is not necessarily a violation, though, as other neighbors in other areas have learned when dealing with maintenance of vacant properties.

LibraParticipantThanks. Tracy, for the clarification. I totally respect your postion and understand the rules. On the other hand, I have to question how they apply here and why you find it necessary in this case for each us to demonstrate that before posting we have individually contacted Mr. Lin. This issue has gone on for years, and I know he has been made well aware of the community’s concern. Believe me, this is not the first time he’s heard about it. He is flat out neglecting the property and the community has every right to request that he clean it up. No one is maligning Mr. Lin personally and no one is suggesting that they don’t patronize his business–since one does not exist–so I’m confused as to what your point is in deleting it????

JanSParticipantLibra…I don’t belive she deleted anything since we’re still posting. But…the editor has the final say. No point in arguing.
No one has contacted him. Not the OP , not you, not RAE.. How about I don’t like how you’re keeping your property, and I com on here an complain, and then others complain, and more and more. Don’t you think it would be a courtesy to contact you?
Now, having said that…doe anyone have a copy of the stop work order? I’m just curious as to what it actually says. And…I would suggest that if this really bothers you this much, to contact the Landmark Preservation Board, the DPD, etc. Perhaps it will spur him on if it comes form an official site. For all you know, maybe he doesn’t come on here, and has no idea that you’re all complaining. That gets absolutely nothing done.

RAEMemberThe better half of RAE has indeed spoken with Tom Lin recently about the condition of Homestead and other properties that he owns in Alki. When I responded to you question JanS, I mistakenly spoke for myself. However, RAE and my better half were both involved in composing these posts. My mistake. These are good rules and I support them

JanSParticipantmaybe the better half will share their conversation? Inquiring minds want to know :)
