Blackcat119ParticipantI haven’t seen a mention of the West Seattle ‘Hum’ here for quite awhile but I believe it is back! We live next to Madison Middle School and are hearing the pulsating hum all day long – it’s driving us crazy. Is anyone else hearing this?
It became more noticeable about 4 weeks ago.
For those that haven’t experienced this, it’s best described as a low frequency sound that occurs in a very slow pulsating pattern. Aka ‘the hum’.
Would love to know if others are experiencing this and your location. Thanks!

mackerelthecatParticipantI’m experiencing this as well. Because I’ve dealt with this all over the country, I have an app on my phone called Spectroid that shows frequency peaks—at least where I am, it’s registering as a 70 Hz hum/buzz sound. Someone mentioned it could be CalPortland and the industrial mega vacuum that they use, or something to that effect. Whatever it is it’s causing a bit of insomnia for me and I’m not happy about it… I’m going to give noise canceling sleep earbuds a try and see how that goes.

CarDriverParticipantMust be a location issue. I live by the Homestead and have never heard it.

alicekuderParticipantI live near the Southwest Community Center (Westwood Village area), so I’m sure I’m not hearing the same hum you are, but I discovered years ago that the huge ventilation fans on the roof of the center create the kind of noise you are describing. About once a year, the maintenance team would go up and clean them and inadvertently changing the direction in which the fans faced. When they face east, there’s not much of a problem because there are fewer homes in that direction, on that level, but when they face west, they really disturb those of us whose homes are directly across the way. I suggest you look for similar circumstances in your area. I.e., commercial buildings with mega-fans on the roof. I hope this helps you locate the source of your hum.

Jan GloverParticipantI live in West Seattle, Arbor Heights area These noises have been going on close to 2 months and driving me frigging crazy. In the morning not very loud at all but at night, I can’t really give a time, but tonight 10-4-25, it started around 8pm. It starts out low then gets louder. There’s the hum then there’s also like so.e sort of machinery sound that kicks in. Also it creates a vibration in my house. It’s pretty creepy. What’s even weirder is if I go outside I don’t hear it. There are couple other sounds too. I’m sleep deprived and half crazy.
