WestMargeParticipantAn open letter to the big trucks in the Junction.
Dear big trucks with your double trailers and wide turn radius,
I am driving on the road too. I am paying attention to you, otherwise, I wouldn’t have swerved quickly out of the way the time that you made a right turn from the inside lane in front of me at the “Whole” behind TJ’s, the time you pulled across a lane in your concrete truck, and the time you started backing up while there were 4 cars behind you. We are tolerating you, and being patient around you, but please be more wary of the people. You are dangerous and you’re going to get someone hurt.
Thanks

JanSParticipantHaving been married to a truck driver in a previous life, I learned very quickly that long trucks with double trailers, etc. HAVE to make a right turn from the inside lane, or they will be up on the curb knocking stuff over. There should be a sign on the back of the truck that says that. And if you’re right next to him/behind him, he can’t always see you in his side mirror. I have learned the hard way to watch for their signals(almost got squished one day in Tukwila picking ex- hubby up), and if it says they are gonna go right, I keep my distance.
I’m sorry , it’s frustrating. They need to pay attention , too, and realize that there may be someone next to them when they’re wanting to turn who may not know to back off. I hate driving next to the trailers…especially if there is no wiggle room for you. :(

jissyParticipantYou know I was a little surprised yesterday to see THREE, double trailer dump trucks yesterday all parked/staged in the turn lane on Fauntleroy outside TJ’s — it seemed like such a hazard, visual and otherwise, I mean that particular spot hardly has a full width turn lane.
There was 1 more double dumper parked in that turnout directly in front of TJ’s. I know those trucks sometimes need to wait to be called up to the jobsite, but it seemed very unsafe for how much traffic is on that road (not to mention no one could turn there either direction). Isn’t there better construction project etiquette? For safety at least?

jamjetsParticipantI have total respect for big rig drivers, and especially the challenges that come with driving larger trucks with trailers in the city environment. Even a small car/truck with a uhaul type trailer can be awfully tough sometimes!
The (side-dump?)trucks are staging/waiting in the center turn lane immediately south of TJs… where one of the left turn lanes on Fauntleroy begins pointing south (divergent intersection, with Alaska continuing west). We all know that many vehicles are not too good at this intersection in the first place, eh? The staging trucks are complicating this traffic flow. There is no apparent flagger or stager involved. Why don’t they stage in the “vacation alley”?
It’s not like this is the only area construction is affecting lanes…. Avalon, California, etc. We are all trying to accomodating the ever changing traffic lanes associated with the sites…. But, this specific plan, right in the center of this arterial junction, seems particularly poor.
My $.02 ;)

jissyParticipantJam: Yep, once I saw them all there, I was looking around for a flagger or police officer or someone helping direct in some manner.
