Yep, I’ve seen a roach at Than Brothers before. It was probably at least three years ago. I only remember b/c my pregnant sister and I were dining there when she saw one crawl across our table. She was a bit more calm then me about it but we didn’t raise a stink, just pushed it off our table with a napkin and watched it scurry off. Needless to say, I haven’t been back!

I have seen a roach there too. It was crawling across my daughter’s sweater while we were sitting in a booth. Haven’t been back either. Ew.

Report it to the health department. A friend had a bad roach experience at a restaurant in the International district and reported it. She said they were super responsive (which she was pleasantly surprised about) and followed up with her on the whole thing.

Than Brothers pho isn’t that good anyway. The only redeeming part is the free pastry.

    Pho 99 is way better.

I gave up on them years ago because of their habit of putting chopsticks out, food side up, for anyone or everyone to grab. how many sneezy children have handled them before I get there? If a restaurant can’t be bothered to set out chopsticks with the pho, they should not hold their breath for any return business.

We stopped going there about a year ago for cleanliness reason. We also stopped going to amazing Pho place in Burien because it was soooooooo gross.

Here’s a link that you can search on restaurants to see if they’ve had any health violations:

Gee. Do you suppose it was the same roach?

Roaches bug me too, but Asian restaurants (even some of the upscale ones) seem to have a problem with them generally. This is partly a basic cleanliness issue, but it also has to do with the fact that roaches can’t resist the taste of the fish sauce and certain other ingredients used in Asian cuisine. You also have to remember that roaches are kind of like bedbugs (eww!) in that, once they get into a building, they’re into the WHOLE building.

Still, no excuse for Than Bro’s simply shrugging off the problem. Any time a roach is even sighted you should get nothing less than a personal visit and apology from the manager, along with a committment to give the place a thorough scrubbing.

    <gratuitous observation>

If you were to do a scientific survey of all the Asian places that have had roach sightings, you would quickly discover that those establishments with the fewest sightings are also those with darkest shade of wall panelling and dark brown lacquer tables.

worked in the restaurant biz for years. you would be surprised at the places that have roaches. it’s a battle for even the finest eateries.

My friend had a roach in her food at one of the established junction restaurants (sorry, don’t want to say the name because I know the rules and don’t want to get in trouble again!). She was told that all the places in the junction have a roach problem. They try to take care of it but it just keeps coming back. So I don’t think it’s just Than Brothers and Jaks because this restaurant was different.

K is right. Even the cleanest kept places are frequent targets for roaches and mice. It IS too bad when employees are nonchalant about it…makes you wonder what else they take too lightly.

Please people, when you start a thread about a place, please say where it is located; where is Than Brothers?

You want to see the roaches for yourself?

It’s south of the Junction, next to Courtesy Tire. Google also knows where it is.

Diane, next to Firestone/Courtesy Tire on CA Ave.

    HelperMonkey…that was cool….

WHY WOULD ANYONE EAT THERE after reading these comments? I only ate there a couple times years ago,and didn’t go back because the chicken in the soup was so tough and over cooked, I figured it had to be leftovers that were boiled and heated up one time too many. But now hearing it is the cockroach castle of West Seattle, I will be sure to tell others about it as well…GROSS !!!

I think Than Bros should erect a giant neon sign on the roof so people can find it.

*Diane this is just a spoof, nothing personal, but it’s kind of funny relating to the other thread.
