Unfortunately this has been happening a lot in our neighborhood. Kudos to you for being diligent! I would definitely go back and knock on the door or leave a note if you are able to identify the exact house. The owners may not have even realized the package was delivered.
Depending on the value of the package it may be worth filing a police report and i am sure they would appreciate any info you have that could be included. I know there is a specific detective working these reports as i had to file one about a month ago.
