PD, just because I can speak to some things we’ve received that we didn’t get a chance to publish, I’ve received more plant-theft/flower-snip reports lately. Not lavender, though. Most recent snipped bloom reported: A lovingly grown dahlia.

    Meantime, sorry to hear it.

I might clarify, this row is 20ft long….it was a “harvest operation”, taking just the ends off.

I was thinking a wedding. The bummer part about Karma is the victim doesn’t usually get to witness the come-about but don’t worry – it ALWAYS happens.

I watched two boys, about oh, 8 or 9 yrs. old yesterday, walking down Admiral Way with scissors or clippers, while their mother walked the dog about half a block ahead of them. They cut flowers out of almost every yard and had a huge bouquet by the time they caught up with the mother. She seemed very happy with the bouquet, including some gorgeous gladiola from one yard. I wanted to say something, but I was quite a ways away walking my own dog; I was not within voice range. By the time I figured out what I was seeing, the mother was a good half-block away. It’s a shame there are stupid mothers.

Damn, ace, unless the boys snuck the scissors with them, it sure sounds like this was either pre-planned, or at the very least, done with the mother’s pre-consent. Smh.

Years ago I saw neighborhood kids picking flowers from my yard, then going door to do to try to sell them for summer ice cream money. I talked with them about asking first, and not trying to sell my own flowers to me. They got it. Next time, they came and asked if they could gather some flowers to sell, I helped them choose some, and off they went.

I just noticed this morning that one Shasta daisy plant had been cut to the ground. This was from a spot along our road and not visible from the house. Also have had several bamboo canes taken in the past. Would be nice if they had just asked.

My sister and I once picked huge bouquets of flowers for my Mom from neighborhood yards, thinking we would surprise her. We were the ones who were surprised when she saw our bouquets and made us go apologize to every home owner from whom we had taken flowers. Needless to say, we never did that again.

My cousin’s 3 year old daughter just ripped off the only gladiola from their neighbor’s yard. She was mortified. Her kid is at that stage where you turn your back for 30 seconds to load the car she’s getting into mischief. That’s not to say momma might be able to do a better job teaching kiddo boundaries but 3 year olds sure act in a flash.

Of course doesn’t sound like some of these are as innocent as a rogue toddler which is really disheartening. Still hopeful it’s small kids that didn’t know any better than “hey my mom likes this stuff help me cut a bunch of them she’ll be so happy!”

Then again I just remembered when the neighbor kids snipped a nice to the kids on the block lady’s only 4 white tulips and waited on her porch for her to get home from work to tell them I did it. She came to my house to talk to my mother and it turned out I had been home all afternoon. Some friends.

Amazing how twisted kid logic can be.

Harvesting lavender is not that easy. Doesn’t sound like a kid job to me, especially such a large quantity. I’m guessing someone is making sachets, or something to sell.

    It’s still theft.

Harvesting lavender only requires scissors. It was on my chore list when I was 10.
