squareeyesParticipantIt’s been decades since I smoked pot; it was a regular activity when I was in my teens that tapered off in my early 20’s as I discovered other substances I preferred. Back then, if it smelled skunky it was perceived as low quality. I suspect that is no longer the case (if it ever really was), but perhaps someone with more current experience can weigh in. I’m guessing the quality and strength of most pot is beyond anything I had access to back then. I’m wondering how much pot has changed in 35-40 years. Thoughts?

HMC RichParticipantAt the Judas Priest concert last Saturday there was a lot of Marijuana being smoked inside the arena. Can’t tell you the quality but it was funny seeing a bunch of 50 year olds baked. Even more interesting was the fact that people were fairly open about smoking pot in the Arena but sneaking puffs from their cigarettes in the bathroom. My My, how times have changed.

Wes C. AddleParticipantThe Skunk smell isn’t necessarily the indicator of strength. It’s really more of a strain characteristic. Normally it’s found in the indica strain. Normally something skunky is pretty good. There are so many flavors, strains and strengths nowadays it’s very similar to buying wine. Back in the day you just got whatever the local market had whether it was bad or good because there were few options. Generally bad cannabis smells like hay to me.

squareeyesParticipantThanks Wes, that’s along the lines of what I was wondering.

HMC RichParticipantToking skunk weed while drinking a skunk beer. Best of both worlds, eh?

wakefloodParticipantMaybe. I have been told by brewers that skunky beer is a sign of exposure to light creating a chemical reaction that yields thiol, which has a skunky smell. This is considered undesirable to many.
I don’t actually mind it much myself save for the fact that it’s more free radicals. Free The Radicals?
