I discovered some siding that is rotting on our house.

Any recommendations for good siding replacement companies? Hopefully someone that will figure out how to replace just the boards needed and not try to get us to re-side the whole house.

    Thanks!

Bump…We, too, are currently gathering bids for siding. Any recommendations would be awesome.

I asked this question on the WSB recently and didn’t really get anywhere. It seems that most siding contractors only want to do total replacements with vinyl. Nobody wants to do repair on wood siding. However, in doing some research, I’ve found a lot of support for maintaining wood siding as opposed to replacing with vinyl. There are lots of how-to videos online, articles on This Old House, etc., if you’d like to attempt to do yourself.

    Hi WSB,

I’m a local contractor here in West Seattle, I can promise you that I would be happy to replace siding boards and not replace the entire side of your house or insist on vinyl. I recently did a replacement for homeowner who just needed a simple repair on a few boards.

I’d be happy to come by and review any of your jobs mentioned and give you a free estimate.

Sherwood Construction did ours. We went with Hardiplank but they’d have done wood if we’d asked.

We would have liked to have repaired the original 1907 siding on our house, but between removing the lead paint and matching for where the siding had to be taken off, we opted to have it replaced with new cedar siding. STS was our contractor and they did a fabulous job.
