jellyfishMemberYou’re kidding me, right? Do you not think this is newsworthy or something to which parents or local citizens should pay attention?
There has been a lot of voiced parental discontent with the SPS system, and I find it interesting that teachers in 4 different schools have recently voted “no confidence” in our superintendent; 2 of them within WS, which is why I posted it to this blog. For community input and dialogue.
If the teachers are dissatisfied with the leadership, I want to know why. I have a child entering kindergarten in the Fall, and want to understand what the issues are within the system as a whole.

QueMemberAs a parent of an almost 4th grader in SPS. There is nothing about this that ISN’T interesting. I think very interesting points were brought up by the Union members at Sanislo and Schmitz Park.
Thanks for posting the links Jellyfish

timeslidParticipantHere is your chance to understand one of the issues with the district – the Superintendent and to put your voice to the issue.

Personally, I have had a problem with this Supe since she came on board and there are numerous reasons why there could be legitimate cause for reexamination of this hire.
However, I also would call out the School Board for giving this Superintendent an annual bonus of over $100K for completion of 4 items of 20, if I recall, on her actionable goals. Total failure of leadership and the School Board rewarded her mightily for it. Got to wonder about that, don’t you?
She, in an over-simplified nutshell, just does not project the image of someone who follows through on the game plan they present to the board, teachers and parents. Now, that petition has a long, long list of issues. But, another biggy might be the conflict of interest she might have in acting on Boards of groups which contract with the School District. Interesting, if not unethical. Some can draw justifications and loopholes into “best practices” for public administration, but I have to wonder about a city where this has become acceptable.
I think she needs to be called out by the people. I also think the School Board needs to be sent a message as well. She should never have received that bonus, for starters. I HAVE to question the logic of that board decision.
Just saying and just my little ole’ opinion. I’m still reading and learning more. But I think it is definitely worth parents and other teachers getting up to speed on these issues. If I were a parent or teacher, I would definitely sign it. But even as a non-parent community member who strongly supports education in this city by special taxes, levies, as well as volunteering and donations, I will sign it. It is important for non-parents or teachers to look at the situation, too.
