I was going to suggest South Seattle Community College’s Automotive Tech Program, but the car may be too old.

(Though if you ask me, 1988 wasn’t all that long ago.) ;-)

    Here’s a link, just in case….

Keep the plates if you can. My friend donated his 1980s Subaru and the plates got separated from the car and he started getting tickets in the mail from out of state.

Motley Zoo is an excellent animal rescue group and they can accept cars as donations. They adopt cats out of the Alaska Junction Petco and we network with them on a regular basis.

    Here is their website:

Be careful if you donate your car through the “charity donation services” that most charities and non-profits direct you to. The donation service may lead you to believe that you will be able to deduct the value of the car you donate from your taxes. But under the IRS rules now, you can deduct only the amount of money that the charity actually receives from your car, which is often a small fraction of what the car would have been worth if sold privately, because the cars are sold at auction and the donation services deducts a bunch of fees before anything is paid to the charity. There’s a good article on donating cars to charity here:

    http://www.charitywatch.org/articles/car.htm

There are still some non-profits out there that will take your donated car and actually use it, but not many, and they aren’t always easy to find.

any auto wrecking company will come get the car and give you a 100.00 not much but you won’t have to deal with anything.

Two of my own vehicle caught on fire, called GT towing, and they came and did it all and 100.00 cash.

You could try Northwest Center. BigBlueTruck.com

If nothing’ better works out I offer $50.00 for old junk cars. I recycle metal but don’t get cars too offend & they are usually a pain for me to scrap.

We donated ours to Goodwill, but a 3rd party did the work.

KCTS (Channel 9 television) accepts vehicle donations. I think they handle the donations themselves, so no hassles with intermediaries.

If you are at the point of considering selling it for scrap how much of a donation would it be to a non-profit? More likely you would just be passing the burden of what to do with it over to them. Sell it for scrap and move on.
