sbreParticipantAbout 15 years of service was what our HP printer had in it, alas it’s time to find its replacement.
We are seeking your knowledgeable(?) input on what you would consider a good purchase for our home.
The majority of its use will be for documents however we love to be able to print decent quality photos from time to time as well as send and receive fax’s. Oh, and we are excited about the thought of a wireless model.
Any advice you care to share will be appreciated, anything from makes & models to features and/or where to purchase would be very helpful too.
Thanks in advance,
A & M

angelescrestParticipantIf you would like to save money, I have a spare workhorse HP deskjet 920–works perfectly and comes with ink. It sits boxed, waiting for our HP to conk, but… Free to good home.

anonymeParticipantWhen my printer died, I did a lot of research and chose a Canon Pixma to replace it. I love the Canon, but it is a bit of an inkoholic.

muchloveParticipantWe’ve gone though several of them over the years. I love the one I have now…HP Laserjet All in one – uses toner = much less expensive refills!
.
One thing I’ve learned is instead of looking at an actual printer, look at the ink cartridges and go from there. Some are around $10 others are $50+. Another thing I’d look into is if ALL the cartridges have to be in place for it to print – some do some don’t…can add up quick if you mostly use black.
.
I also have an HP w/scanner that has been great. Its super fast and the black genuine cartridges are $13. If you plan to have cartridges refilled make sure they’re refillable – some are while others aren’t.

metrognomeParticipantI would second muchlove’s comments on ink — be sure to find out whether the printer uses separate color cartridges (a good thing in my experience) and whether it will print black (text, etc,) even if one of the color inks is empty. My HP all-in-one will print a half dozen pages and then that’s it until I replace the empty color cartridge, which means a trip to the store or waiting for home delivery.

sbreParticipantGreat advice all, thanks to each of you.
We ended up with a HP Officejet 6700 Premium and was handed a $40 off coupon by another patron in the store.
Life is good!!!

manhattan93MemberWe bought HP Envy 114 , 4 months ago. Print, scan, fax all together in this printer. The best printer we have bought so far .

angelescrestParticipantAnd, if anyone could use our “extra” HP workhorse–works amazingly, w/disc, cartridge, etc., I am glad to pass it on.
