I just talked to Tom (one of the principals of the company)and he showed me his license. I intend to give him a long overdue job that is too much for my limited plumbing skills and shall report here after.

I have appreciated rants and raves posted here in the past but I know just how convoluted and sometimes demented state licensing and business ownership rules can be. Unlicensed and unbonded contractors and subs are a problem but one should always give a business a chance to dis-prove detrimental allegations before posting on a public forum. I have helped lawyers trace ownership trees in other states in the past when the internet was new (and before). It has gotten easier to get some info but often the whole story is lost in a maze of “DBA’s” (doing business as).

Tom is trying to register here to speak for himself but has run into a problem getting a login sent to his email account. I will do what I can to help with what might be a computer problem :)

    Tom,

I would encourage you to contact LNI and the Business License Service.

“Affordable Plumbing of West Seattle” appears to be a registered trade name to two companies:

    THOMAS JEFFERY BEVENS – UBI# 600451910

    A1 SEWER AND DRAIN, LLC – UBI# 603112737

As for Washington Sewer and Drain – you’re missing the “s” in your license # – WASHIST902MN.

And the state doesn’t show “Affordable Plumbing of West Seattle” being registered to “Washington Sewer and Drain”. It does William Cochrain as the owner in the state database. The database lists both of you as the owners of A1 Sewer and Drain, LLC.

State licensing can be very confusing, and it appears that you’re at least trying to comply with state licensing and contractor registration laws, which can be challenging to navigate.

I would encourage you to contact Labor & Industries at 1-800-647-0982 and the Business License Service at 1-800-451-7985 to get these issues cleared up.

Otherwise folks may think you are not legally licensed, as you say you are, which might deter them from working with you.

Glad that you’re making the attempt. I hope the state can help you clean up the incorrect information that is in their system.

    Good luck!
