inactiveMemberOMG. Too Good Alert!!!
I’ve been field-testing Greek restaurants and baklava for 20+ years in the city of Seattle. I worked in Greek and Lebanese restaurants when I was younger. I am a self-proclaimed baklava junkie. The best baklava I have EVER had in the city is now being served at Kokoras on California, about one-half block NW of BPP, just north of Fauntleroy.
I’ve ordered it a few times now and, while there has been some variability in the “batches” of this honey-laden, nutty, clove-infused phyllo-crispy delicacy, all bites thus far have been within range of sublime.
Go. Eat. Bliss out.

flowerpetalMemberThanks WSD! I absolutely love this place. Its small and friendly; diners seem to have a good time; and the food is great enough to make me want to weep!
True confession: I have always over indulged and never left room for dessert. Now I have a good reason to pace myself.

cjboffoliParticipantNot to diminish your rave, but I have to say that I’ve never had a piece of bad baklava in my life. Even on a bad day it is still very good. Me thinks you could dump phyllo, honey, nuts and cloves into the bottom of a rusty barrel, mix it up and it would STILL taste good.

IrukandjiParticipantAnyone know where to get baklava made with pecans instead of walnuts?

acemotelParticipantOK I am there today! I have had not-so-good baklava. I think it depends on the type of honey, the proportion of spice and the nuts. I’ve also had some made with minimal honey (he said it was baklava lite LOL), which just didn’t do it for me. I like it soggy, dripping and messy.

JenVMemberthey do have the best baklava. it’s not too overly sweet, which I have had some that hurt your teeth…basically EVERYTHING is wonderful at Kokoras- best vinaigrette ever. Mmm. I think I might do lunch there tomorrow!

herongrrrlParticipantIrukandji–try Turkish Delight at the north end of the Pike Place Market. While they may not have baklava as delightful as Kokoros, they do offer baklava made with nuts other than walnuts. Not sure if they have pecan, though.

SueParticipantIrukandji, I think the Pike Place Bakery has it with pecans.

missaudreyhorneParticipantKokoras also has this “Greek pot pie” dinner special sometimes, basically yummy spiced meat and vegetables with tzatziki sauce. It is awesome and enough food for two. I love the food there.
