beachdrivegirlParticipantI went to Cactus last night and got the Nachos.I have to say they were teh BEST nachos I have had at a restaurant.

JenVMemberBest guacamole I have ever had. Seriously amazing.

flowerpetalMemberThanks for the Rave BDG. I have been to Cactus in the Madison Valley and still have not been to “our own” Cactus. The “BEST nachos” is just the lure I need!

RobindianneParticipantAnd – they have the most fabulous shaken margarita with jalapenos and cilantro in it! Sounds yucky I know, but it’s truly wonderful! Also the squash enchalada (and I’m not vegetarian) makes me swoon. Very tasty!

Cali101MemberI just love their salsa that they bring you with chips. I eat it by the spoonful! And their mexican lemonade with jalepenos is to die for. Love the alki location the best!

dhgParticipantThis looks like a good place to put in my rave. Over a year ago I took my relatives to Cactus on Alki. They were visiting from the Midwest and wanted a place with a view of the water. Unfortunately, they got my entree wrong. They took it back and refired the order but the kitchen took so long to get it out I thought they’d forgotten. When the plate arrived, I pointed out that everyone had finished and we should just cancel it. The manager responded by bringing free desserts to the table AND they comped the bill. They said it was because we were regulars and wanted me to be happy. I was very happy, in fact, and have stepped up the number of visits since then.

wilsonParticipantOk,
Soooo gotta disagree…I must be a downer Debbie tonight…try walking in (alone).. ask for a table for your party,,2, 3, 4 people…the restaurant can be completely empty…they will not seat you until your WHOLE party arrives. I asked angry hostess if I could sit down and wait for them…maybe order a DRINK aka: $$$ whilst I waited…nope! no can d0!
conclusion: 2 other sisters all arrived ..whew! damn 40 year olds are known for skating on their bills..or trying to hog a table for 4 so they can sit alone :)
2 drinks each
3 appetizers …… $78
All during happy hour prices w/some sort of coupon-promotional to boot

flowerpetalMemberWe went there for dinner this evening and had a great experience. Same good service we have always gotten at the Madison location.
I had the chimichanga with chorizo, my partner had one of the specials, two incredibly good quesadilla’s with Dungeness Crab on top. Delicious enogh to make me weep (but I didn’t). We had no room for the key lime pie even tho it was our intention!
Sorry your experience was crummy Wilson. Maybe a word with the manager would have been helpful, maybe not. Apparently that is their policy and the hostess can’t over-rule.

pigeonmomParticipantIt’s been years since since I’ve had nachos, I’m way overdue! nom-nom-nom

SueParticipantEvery year at Christmas my boss gives me a gift certificate to Cactus – he frequents the one in Kirkland – and it’s usually enough for my husband and I go twice. So I’ve been there a few times. The food is good and we’ve had decent service there, but I don’t think it’s *that* good for some of the prices. Now, I’m not paying, so I’m really enjoying myself – once we ordered nothing but a table of appetizers which was great fun on somebody else’s dime – but it’s not somewhere I think to go back at my own cost because it just doesn’t seem remarkable enough or enough of a value to bring me back.

carrieannMemberLOVE the butternut squash enchiladas. I tell myself I’ll get something else, but each time, I find myself ordering that. The chips & salsa+guacamole is a must, and I’ve had some excellent drinks (house mojito and hibiscus chichi) there, too. They also have a chicken quesadilla with bacon and crema drizzled on top that’s quite tasty. I’ve gone with one other person, a bigger group of friends, and the whole family, and have never had a bad experience.

flowerpetalMemberFunny, I keep telling myself that I’m going to try the butternut squash enchiladas and then I am lured by something else! Maybe one day Carrieann you will be at the next table and we can share plates!

DanaMemberPros; Lovely foods and Drinks. Generous portions of each. The service is usually very good.
Cons; The wait can be very long and the seating system is very very frustrating. I actually had a manager try to give his friends, who had just walked in, a table while my friends and I had been waiting for nearly an hour. When the service is bad, it is really bad.

lindaParticipantI LOVE this place. We usually sit in the bar so have never had a problem finding seats. The best part is they are so willing to work with a wheat allergy so I can enjoy my food without worrying. Even when it’s busy, the bartender will take the time to check with the kitchen on the potential wheat content of their dishes. They gladly substitute corn tortillas for the flour ones on the quesadillas on the happy hour bar menu and still give me the happy hour price. Love the wild mushroom and also the chicken quesadilla. Also love their margaritas, they don’t use the sugary margarita mixes most places use so they’re not sickeningly sweet.

carrieannMemberflowerpetal – Absolutely!
One of the other things I love about their food, is the simple but tasty addition of lightly toasted (pumpkin?) seeds to the rice. My husband isn’t a fan, so I get his, too. Yum.
July 8, 2009 at 9:46 pm #671530
flowerpetalMemberYEs the pumpkin seeds are a nice touch aren’t they? I’m not much of a name dropper but I can’t resist. We used to see Bill & Melinda Gates on ocassion at Cactus in Madison Valley. I think they just boated across the water from their digs. Security men were always nearby, but people were cool and left them alone to dine.

CountingCoupMemberMy fav’s at Cactus: “Essential Margarita’s” & the “Seafood Enchilada” are to die for.
The whole appetizer menu is great, and making your way to the restrooms, you get great afro-cuban/latin salsa music, it leaves you dancing back to your seat…
July 9, 2009 at 5:29 am #671532
wundrgrrrlParticipantOooh, yes the essentials are a “hidden” favorite since they aren’t on the menu any more! The quesadilla’s are another favorite too, not to mention the banana dessert, coated in melted brown sugar with coconut ice cream… mmmmm… Too bad they’re not open late for a midnight snack!
