velo_nutParticipantGreat mid walk stop for the wife and I on our dog walks in the morning. Fantastic folks behind the counter and an absolute GREAT cup of coffee.
Always jumpstarts our mornings.
Thanks ladies!

WSBKeymasterWhile Hotwire is the official favorite WSB coffee shop, not just for longtime sponsorship but also for tastiness, personality and the fact that owner Lora is so involved with the community, we have a soft spot on this side of town for Bird on a Wire.
Torin and I used to walk there in his much-younger years, since that’s barely a mile from our house; owner Heidi, who is also involved with the Rat City Rollergirls, originally opened it in what’s now the On Safari Foods storefront fronting 35th, and she had a fish tank. Torin went through a long phase of fascination with fish and Heidi would patiently entertain his obsessive questions about the ones in the aquarium. Every coffee house has a story …

velo_nutParticipantYeah… I have sponsorship issues with that too since Caffe Ladro is one our team sponsors but Bird on a Wire is just so fun and close too the house.

anonymeParticipantThis is one of the best coffee shops anywhere. Not only do they serve a great cuppa, the atmosphere is like an old-fashioned salon. No, not like a hair salon…the salons of old which functioned as exchanges of cultural and intellectual information. If you have time to sit awhile, it’s guaranteed that you will end up meeting someone interesting and having a fascinating conversation. A great place to meet people in the neighborhood. I always buy my bulk coffee there as well. The ‘Wicked Wolf’ is wicked good.

JoBParticipantone more reason to stop by

WesternMemberI’ll try both of these. Thanks for the info. I tried Pioneer coffee on Alki today, Sunday. I won’t be going back again. The baristas were hanging out with their beer guzzling boyfriends and kept cranking up the Seahawks game, drowning out conversation of everyone. Not a big deal, but 3 different patrons turned it down each time, but she would turn it back up for her boyfriends sitting in the back, so they could hear the game. I mentioned to the boys why people were turning it down, but they said it was playoffs so it’s ok. Ugly customer service. I hope the owners find out about it. I can’t reward an establishment like that, with so many choices around here. Can they even drink beer there? Don’t you need a liquor license?

JasperbluParticipantI LOVE Bird on a Wire, and have stopped in at least once a week for the past year+ we’ve been in West Seattle. Can’t recommend them enough, esp Heidi (the owner), she REALLY knows how to make an espresso and won’t settle for anything less than perfect drinks from her baristas either, which I appreciate.
Yummy breakfast burritos and soups, cookies, Nutella brioche, etc.
Heidi *was* applying for a beer/wine license so she could have evening events, but I’m not sure how that’s panned out yet. I imagine the city liquor licensing board is SLOW on that stuff.
Anyway, if you’re at the south end of WS, do stop in and see the gals (& one guy) at the Bird. Best espresso in our ‘burg IMO.

RainyDay1235MemberGreat little spot. I stop there on my mile walk to Westwood for groceries. Didn’t know they sold bulk coffee…must try the Wicked Wolf! :)
