Caffeine QueenMemberFollowing the rules, I’ve already talked to the manager of the WS Jiffy Lube so here goes….
Took the car into Jiffy Lube last week for an oil change. I brought in my own oil filter too as I had already called and they didn’t stock it. Now, granted the oil was synthetic but the total cost was a whopping $91.00! Really? For 6 quarts of oil and the service of putting on my own oil filter? The charges were $59.00 for the oil and then another $33.00 for the ‘upgrade’. Doesn’t it sound like I was charged twice or am I crazy?
So, I spoke to the manager and he basically told me to like or not get the car back…..oh he did give me 15% off my next oil change like I would really go back.

NewGuyMemberQueen,
That is a travesty. I fancy Grease Monkey, personally. You may prefer a lube job at some other place, I dunno.

livingonthebeachMemberI am surprised they didn’t share with you the cost in advance. They are always really good about bringing you in and saying this is what your cost will be before they start. That should be your chance to opt out. Did they do that?

AnonymousInactiveWalt’s on Roxbury is a great place for lube jobs. The only downside is you have to make an appointment so instant gratification isn’t an option.
What we need is an Oil Can Henry’s! You get a copy of USA Today and get to sit in your car while they do the lubing part, so you won’t get winded walking from the waiting room to your SUV. Also, to satisfy the voyeuristic intent displayed by so many conspicuous consumers, you can watch them work on your car from 4 different camera angles displayed on a screen just outside your window. They check all fluids and make recommendations as appropriate. I had a lube job done on my SUV there last month and it was a reasonable price for 6 quarts synthetic Castrol, a couple bulb replacements, and something else I can’t remember.
Very quick and courteous. There’s also one on HWY 101 on the north end of Newport, OR (just south of the Wal-Mart).

rs261Membersynthetic oil costs about 3x as much as non synthetic oil…so the price of the oil is not that outrageous…it would cost you about 50 dollars in synthetic oil to do it yourself.

JanSParticipantjiggers…you didn’t sleep well last night? hehe…does the timeline matter that much?
Actually, to the OP…they didn’t give you an estimate beforehand? I thought that anything over 75 bucks had to be stated upfront…or is that old information?
I sure do like my older car, cheap oil, cheap filters…cheap oil changes :) so sorry this happened to you, and the manager was not so gracious…

B-squaredParticipantcaffeine queen – i always pick up my synthetic oil at costco and bring it with me whenever i get my oil changed so i don’t have any unpleasant surprises like that. that price does seem way out there even with synthetic.

AnonymousInactivePaid more than $100 for full synthetic at Courtesy (with a coupon), if that helps to know.

RainyDay1235MemberOil Can Henry’s – oh I miss them. I used to live across the street from one. Now THAT was service!
But seriously, now I never pay more than $35 – at my Jeep Dealership no less – for an oil change. And that includes a shuttle to my work. Outrageous!

dhgParticipantI had problems with Jiffy Lube: They put in new air filters without telling me first. They could have called the cell phone but no, they just went ahead and charged me for it. I refused to pay for them and when they couldn’t find the old filters and were fussing around about how to undo it, I drove away because I wasn’t going to give them another hour to undo their scam. I don’t really know any great places for oil change. I take it to the dealership now. Cost with Synthetic is always nearly $100 but that includes the filter. At the dealership, I’m getting a good double valved filter. Some of these shops use inferior products.
