On the last supermarket thread I defended the Jefferson Square Safeway staff.

But today I had an infuriating encounter with a seafood counter guy. I asked to buy some salmon displayed in the case. The fish guy walked out from behind to stand next to me and point at the plastic-wrapped trays, saying “There it is, help yourself.” I tried to explain that I wanted more than one piece, several pounds, and that it would make more sense for him to wrap up a package for me, rather than me grabbing 4 or 5 trays. Besides, the stuff in plastic looks gross (I didn’t say that). He basically refused, finally telling me I should buy a whole fish, and yelled at me that I shouldn’t yell at him! It was bizarre. I finally said I couldn’t deal with him and walked away. I stopped by the Roxbury Safeway later and easily got what I needed.

I planned to speak to the manager on my way out, but he was busy checking. So I’m writing this instead. Just venting.

a suggestion…let the manager know anyway…in writing. That man makes a good wage, and should be working for it,giving good customer service, not giving you a rash of sh*t…it’s a shame that he feels it’s his right.

Jerald, you should still let the manager know about your encounter with the unhappy seafood man.

I don’t ever shop at Slaveway.

Crap service being the number one reason. I guarantee you’d never get that kind of “service” at either Met Market or WS Thriftway.

How odd, I’m always treated really well at JS Safeway. Definitely talk with the manager about this.

I must admit that the fish department at JS Safeway is awful. The fish is consistently frozen and tasteless. I might spend double at Seattle Fish Company, but I get a mighty tasty dinner!

Thanks, all. I do usually shop at Thriftway, but pick up some staples at Safeway occasionally. The salmon looked good and was about $8.00/pound for fresh sockeye, compared to $13 at Costco. I haven’t tried it yet, it’ll be on the bbq shortly.

I will talk to the manager. I’m still mad. Usually the people there are nice.

Thriftway has captured me with its espresso happy hour and cheese samples (among other things). I’ve given up totally on QFC.
