Rant: Celtic Swell only 21 and over

My family and I have gone to the Celtic Swell on Alki a number of times. We went again tonight. There were 5 of us. All adults but one is 19. When we sat down we were asked if everyone was 21. We were surprised to learn there’s a new owner and now you must be 21 to be in the restaurant. Not the bar area, the entire restaurant at anytime. We all left. I’m very disappointed in this change as my family has enjoyed eating there and we often saw other people with kids and teenagers. They’ve just lost my business for at least two years and maybe forever.

I stopped going a couple of years ago, after their menu went from six pages of reasonably good Irish food to a couple of pages of very generic food, with the only hint of Irish being a Rueben sandwich.

Thanks for the tip! I prefer over-21 bars.

P.S. Reubens are American in origin although I appreciate that you can reliably find them in “Irish” bars.

Note that I said “hint of Irish”… given that a Rueben has corned beef ;-)

I had no idea that the Swell had changed owners! You’re right, this is shame. Explains the new menus too.

I wonder if a letter writing campaign might make them change their minds.
