IrukandjiParticipantI’ve started making a point of calling businesses whose drivers are speeding on Admiral Way.
The latest is Window.ology, going 50+ in the 30 zone. For all who are tired of the speeders, please help me in notifying businesses that their behavior in our area makes a difference to us. Thanks!

JoBParticipanti can do that.

JanSParticipantI always wondered if anyone ever called the #’s on the back of trucks, etc. “How’s my driving? Call 1-800-***-****” I’ve been tempted, but never have…anyone else?
Yes..we should let these businesses know that their behavior is unacceptable…I always wonder…where’s a cop when you need ’em? :)
(before I take any heat for dissing the SPD, I really do say that jokingly)

charlabobParticipantI actually have called, Jan — when I drive Xcountry I get bored :-) No one has ever answered — If I’m lucky, I get a recording.
I of course pull over and stop before I call.

JenVMemberI had to call on Fox Plumbing one time when the driver nearly hit me and then flipped me off when I honked. The lady at the front desk who answered did not seem to care. I think businesses just put “how’s my driving” stickers on their cars to make it seem like they care….

HuindekmiParticipantOut of curiosity, Irukandji, how do you know that the truck was going 50+? Do you have a radar gun, did you time it from point A to point B, or are you just using your eyes and estimation?
April 3, 2008 at 9:45 pm #620818
IrukandjiParticipantI was driving 30 and watched the guy come off the Admiral exit behind me without slowing down then pass me up. So estimate, yes, but coming off the WS Bridge at 50 or more and kept going.
Add today: 56 Bus eastbound blowing thru Admiral/41st red light at 1:10 PM after a grey sedan pulled out from behind it to get thru the tail end of yellow-to-red. Bus gunned thru red as cars on 41st pulled into intersection, mom with stroller had to pull back out of crosswalk…

BusinessOwnerMemberI really cannot believe this was posted.
Huindekmi – I am completely with you!
Irukandji – The Police are out actually doing Police work (just joshing) because people like you would rather them write tickets and then solve real crimes!

meParticipantDon’t forget to call when you see one go out of their way to be courteous.
April 5, 2008 at 6:38 am #620821
charlabobParticipantI don’t believe you people…you’re defending trucks speeding through Admiral and buses running people over? Amazing!

RainyDay1235MemberI called on one of those trucks with the sticker last year. It was a dump truck that had the bumper sticker “We Cover Our Loads”…and his load was NOT covered. Not to mention the truck was spraying debris and rocks over I-90…and this at least a year after “Maria’s Law” was enacted.
No idea if they did anything about it, but the office seemed very appreciative of the call.
Note: I was the passenger (not driving) when I phoned! :)

IrukandjiParticipantSadly, Business Owner, speeding is a crime and in this area has moved up from speeding into reckless driving, vehicular assault (neighbor hit in marked crosswalk WITH signal by distracted driver on phone), property damage when driver loses control and lands in neighbor’s planters and yard, and a fatality or two – one pedestrian and one motorcyclist that I know of. Those seem like real crimes to me.
While I can agree with you about REAL CRIME issues, there are a number of special units about as well as detectives doing the backwork so offices on the street can attend to crimes in progress. Having more officers AND neighbors aware of problem areas is where we need the help – not only with transit issues but with home burglaries, little creeps throwing rocks and arsonists.
Happy Speeding Mr. BO.

IrukandjiParticipantNot just Admiral, certainly not always identifiable vehicle owners.
Just a little harmless property damage :)

KeithGormezanoMemberMost smart businesses would appreciate a heads up. No one wants to have to pay more for auto insurance because their employees were acting stupid.

CindyLouMemberI used to just get angry-now I take action and it feels good. I have called in bad drivers of businesses several times. It may take a few phone calls or transfers, but I always get ahold of a person or at least a voicmail. I let them know their employees behavior is a deciding factor in my patronizing their business. My worst experience was calling in a guy by the “hows my driving” sticker and reaching the actual driver(so he also talks and drives) who started screaming at me that somehow we were to blame for his illegal maneuver. Why the “hows my driving” number would be linked to the driver’s cell phone is beyond me. The best experience was after speaking with the corporate office, the actual driver called me to sincerely apologize and offered a free coffee if I were to stop by his store. Your phone calls matter.

IrukandjiParticipantThanks CindyLou!

seekingmoreMemberIt is so frustrating as a pedestrian, I am astonished at how many people are not following simple rules of the road. Yes, safety should be the first priority but it is not. Blowing stop signs is so common it is ridiculous. Yield signs are invisible, uncontrolled intersections are a dare and quite frankly when I try to enforce my right to walk across the street, I feel like I am taking my life in my own hands. People are too distracted multitasking in their cars to even notice all of the above.
SLOW DOWN, PAY ATTENTION, STOP SCREWING AROUND and DRIVE according to the law!!!
July 7, 2008 at 10:54 pm #620830
RainyDay1235MemberI for one will continue to call on business numbers on their trucks – or report their license plates if it’s a really bad offense.
ANYONE not following the “rules” should be everyone’s concern. These are real crimes with real life or death consequences. I absolutely want the police ticketing offenders. Jaywalking pedestrians and bicyclists too.
Within a single 1/2 hour on Capitol Hill yesterday I saw two separate bicyclists – with helmets and all the necessary gear – deliverately peddle through obvious red lights. One even stopped and looked first before proceeding. Then I saw a family of four scurry across the street against a light – young children in tow. What does that teach them? I cringed every time expecting a bus to plow through the intersection.
I wish police would spend as much time setting up online predator stings as much as they seem to set up speed traps, but these offenses are still important…
