The woman making a left out of the Home Depot parking lot onto Sylvan Way who was so egregious in cutting me off, had I not taken evasive action, she would have suffered a smashed up right side to say nothing of the well being of my car and both drivers. Then she waved as if this was another day in the life of (and I suspect it is). Some drivers are just idiots, this one is a smug idiot, and therefore receives today’s award.

OOOH the “wave” makes me crazy! I hate it when someone driving does something wrong and then waves, like that excuses the wrong. How about PAY ATTENTION and know the rules of driving. AND PUT DOWN THE PHONE.

A wave is better than a finger. Nothing like cutting me off then flipping me off for being in the way.

I’d like to give that award to the woman in the burgundy Honda CRV with a “Coexist” bumper sticker around 1 pm yesterday who was in the left turn only lane at 35th and Roxbury but proceeded straight, nearly running into the side of my car and then cutting me off as I was (legally)continuing straight ahead southbound down 35th, and proceeded to wave at me like she’d done nothing wrong. Older lady, completely clueless. Why don’t you “coexist” with paying attention? That’s been a left-turn only lane to EB Roxbury for months now. It’s very very clearly marked. Pay attention or stay off the road.

I nominate the guy in the white 4Runner with a “tool” sticker on the rear window.

At the Avalon/35th street intersection heading down Avalon, in the right lane which isn’t technically a full lane after crossing 35th – gunning it to be the first off the line, without regard to the necessary merge you would have to do into my lane.

There was a car taking a right from 35th onto Avalon that did creep slowly out. However if you hadn’t slammed the gas to get ahead of one car you wouldn’t have had to swerve into my space causing me to slam on my breaks and nearly get rear ended.

    “tool” is a perfect word.

Granted it wasn’t very classy to honk and throw my hands up in the air (especially since one hand was only showing a minimal number of fingers), but really. Getting ahead of one car was worth nearly causing an accident?

All good examples of an all too common problem in West Seattle.

I agree, Librarian-the drivers who retaliate when you react to their bad behavior never cease to amaze me. Thanks everyone for making me chuckle and for the solace in knowing I am not alone.

I nominate anyone who pulls up to a red light, waits for the light to turn green, THEN puts on their left turn signal.

Second nomination goes to people who whip out in front of you from a side street only to drive 10 mph under the speed limit, even though there was no one behind you.

Bonus Trophy polishing cloth included if they actually turn right. ;-)

smokey….at least they used their signal :)

I suppose some people buy those stripped down versions – no signals. At least it seems that way at times…

Easy on the wavers, folks. It’s the only way for a person in that situation to say “I’m sorry for my mistake, and thank you for not shooting me. I’ll see you in the forums.”

Anyone interested in knowing what it feels like to make a mistake can ask away, I’ll describe it in detail. For now I’ll just say it can be pretty embarrassing, and sometimes a wave is all you have.

As a newcomer to the region, I am sure I’ve made a few errors that have frosted some of you folks. I’m not a bad driver, just trying to stay within the faded white lines, avoid the bus-only lanes, and not get a ticket in the photo enforced zones!

So, what you’re saying Breezy, when you were in the situation of you and another drive arriving at the intersection at the same time, you actually went on ahead when they waved you on, rather than doing the obligatory sit there for three minutes doing the “You go. No you go” thingy? ;-)

Sometimes the wave is to just acknowledge that you made a mistake. Nothing vicious…

@miws, yes that’s what I’m saying! I think the thing I’m having the most difficult time with is the changing of street names when they’re actually the same dang street. That and knowing where the school zone ends there by OLG. Hub’s got a lovely ticket in the mail the other day, but he drives like a grandma – really. We’re both going to adopt the “15 mph 24/7” on 35th from now on ;)

We have the wave to say thanks, the finger to say what the finger says, but I wish there was a hand motion to say “I’m sorry” for when I make a boneheaded move.

Yes, sometimes the wave is sincere and I have received and given those and support them. This time it was not.

I vote that said hand motion NOT be taking your hands off the wheel and waving them around, like the woman who almost merged into my car on I-5 a few weeks ago did.

    .

I think she might’ve actually been expressing annoyance at my use of the horn, but either way, not a great idea on the freeway!

I have to give myself the award for inadvertently cutting off a motorcycle on the bridge a couple of days ago. He was in my blind spot and I didn’t see him in my mirror, but I turned my head to look and still didn’t see him – at least not until I was already in the lane and he came into my view with the middle finger salute (totally deserved). I did wave at him because I wanted to convey an apology – not to be an a$$hat about it.

It appears to me there is a problem and the junction of Alaska and Fauntleroy. People going south on Fauntleroy in the middle lane will sometimes turn right on Alaska, as you USED to be able to do. Could cause big trouble.
